Back in January, I had the honor of speaking at MSU’s Malcolm X Forum. Thank you Professor Mohammad Khalil for the invite. I’ve been reflecting on that space and I don’t take this work for granted at all.

When we talk about legacy, especially with our Black leaders from Lansing, we have a real opportunity to honor Malcolm X in a way we haven’t fully done yet. The Malcolm X Memorial connected to the Holmes and Pleasant Grove Development is one pathway, not the only pathway. There are others working behind the scenes to ensure his legacy is handled with care and integrity.

For me, this is one contribution. I’m committed to collaborating with anyone serious about doing Malcolm justice here in Lansing.

It was also an honor to hear Brother Yusef Salaam share his story. It’s real power in us telling our stories to one another. That’s where healing and movement begin. ✊🏾 taken in Michigan State University by @popshooping

This film is more than a documentary—it’s a love letter to Southwest Lansing. Told through the voices of residents, business owners, and community leaders, it captures the spirit, history, and resilience of a neighborhood that continues to shape its own future.

This was more than a film it was a merging of journeys. Each of us brought our own stories, struggles, and dreams, and through trust and shared purpose, we created something bigger than ourselves.

Telling the stories of the people who shaped Southwest Lansing was an honor. And behind the scenes, it was a reminder that when we come together with all our differences we can build something powerful.

I’m so grateful for the film crew, @rootsandhope, @sketch_marq and @kaelyn.sanders, I love y’all. We believed in the vision and US. We put the film first. We trusted each other.🤞🏾

And for me… this was a dream realized. To see my name in the credits!! Thank you, God, for allowing me to do what You called me to do.
