IN GOOD CORRESPONDENCE 💌

‘in good correspondence’ is piece that explores how a garment itself can function as a vessel for correspondence.

the work begins as a folded package addressed with illegible stitching and embellished with five fabric stamps. as the twine bow is untied, the package opens to reveal a babydoll-style shirt. the front neckline and lower tab mimic the seams of an envelope, while a maroon button acts as a wax-seal closure. once unbuttoned, coffee-dyed fabric letters spill outward from within the piece, each written with stitched scribbles instead of readable text. the brown thread, acting as ‘ink,’ connects the letters and suspends them as part of the unfolding garment.

BRING BLOOMERS BACK! 😽🌸 completed lookbook for ARTDES 419

garment statement:
this design reinterprets the bloomer as an outerwear piece while remaining in dialogue with its origins as an undergarment.

constructed from hot pink lace & finished with a deeper-toned bias tape, the sheerness of the fabric brings into light a garment that was historically intended to be concealed. the silhouette maintains the bloomers’ signature volume & billow, preserving its association with freedom and mobility, while the adjustable keyhole openings along the side seams (alternating button & buttonholes) allow the length to be modified.

in playing with transparency, adaptability, and by omitting the traditional white/ivory shades and opting for a vivid color instead, this piece honors the bloomers’ past while transforming it into a playful, functional garment suit for the modern day.
