Thank you, Whatcom County!

“Charting the Course” was our way of creating an open, welcoming, and informative space where community members could connect directly with Port staff and Commissioners, learn about projects, ask questions, and share ideas about the future of the Port.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, explored the exhibits, asked thoughtful questions, and shared their perspectives. Your feedback, curiosity, and engagement help make us better and ensure the Port remains connected to the community it serves.

At the November 3 Port Commission Meeting, Commissioners will hold the public hearing for the Port’s 2027 Preliminary Strategic Budget. The budget helps guide how the Port invests in critical infrastructure, transportation gateways, economic development, facilities, and public assets throughout Whatcom County in the coming year.

If you’re interested in how the Port plans for the future and allocates resources across its programs and properties, this is a great meeting to attend or follow online. The meeting begins at 4:00 p.m., and community members are welcome to participate and provide comment.

Advocating for Working Waterfronts

Port staff recently joined ports, maritime industries, labor organizations, regulators, and elected officials at the annual Pacific Northwest Waterways Association conference. These conversations help advance investments in critical infrastructure and strengthen the future of working waterfronts across the region.

Planning for Future Industrial Growth

Port Economic Development Director, Tyler Schroeder recently spoke at the Whatcom Business Alliance’s annual economic forecast event, highlighting the growing need for industrial land development in Whatcom County. As demand for employment lands continues to grow, ensuring space is available for manufacturing, maritime, logistics, aviation, and other job-producing industries will be critical to the county’s long-term economic success.

Investing in BLI

At Bellingham International Airport, we’ve partnered with uAvionix to bring new situational awareness technology to the air traffic control tower. It’s one of many behind-the-scenes investments helping strengthen safety, efficiency, and the future of air service at BLI.

Small But Mighty

The Port of Bellingham’s Sustainability Programs Manager, Adrienne Douglass-Scott was recently featured in Green Marine’s article, Small but Mighty Ports, highlighting how planning, partnerships, and persistence are helping smaller ports tackle big challenges.
