🪩 Take a moment to Pose and Parlay about our new logo!! 🪩 THANK YOU so much @2nes_unoe for your incredible work, patience and determination!! For the past couple of years, we've been building community, strengthening voices, and delving deeper into our artistic purpose. We hold so much gratitude for this beautiful community of people committed to education, artistry, and support of one another -- which this logo truly represents. If you want to get more involved, come through to the 2024 International Soul Society Festival from June 16 - 23rd (follow @soulsocietyfest  for more info), check out our weekly Intro to Whacking/Punking classes on Thursday nights @urbanartistrydc or shoot us a message as we love to collaborate! ✨️ Pose & Parlay is a dynamic cultural and educational approach to preserving the multiple histories and communities of the urban art forms known as Punking, Whacking/Waacking, Vogue, and Funk Social Dances. A “pose” is a pause with poise and purpose. A “parlay” is both an opportunity to engage in dialogue, and a chance to win, and keep that same energy to continue winning, by betting on yourself, when in community with others. Together, “Pose & Parlay” recognizes that the power in building your personal repertoire-standing still in your strength- is amplified exponentially by growing your involvement and knowledge in the depth and breadth of communities.  In addition to providing an introduction to the foundational movements of these urban art forms through classes, our overarching goal is that through shared stewardship, we create and hold space to understand the historical and regional developments of these art forms. Solidifying the relationship between instruction and cultural preservation is integral to continuing the angles, poses, and purpose of these multi-linear legacies. ✨️ #UrbanArtistry #punking #whacking #waacking #vogue #funk #disco #dmvdancecommunity by @poseandparlay

👌👄💪 VOGUE WORKSHOP: HAND PERFORMANCE & ARMS CONTROL // Sat.10/3 @ 3:30pm 💪👄👌 💎 We are thrilled to welcome back Jeffery Miyake-Mugler! Building on his past Ballroom Culture and Old Way and New Way workshops, Jeffery is blessing us with a Hand Performance & Arms Control Workshop 💎 🦾 Hand Performance and Arms Control is based in all forms of Vogue. It allows your creativity and catching the beat to meet. Come discover the essential method “Jeffery's way” to master this style of dance. 🦾 🎬 Vogue Workshop: Hand Performance & Arms Control w/Jeffery Miyake-Mugler 📆 Sat. 10/3 @ 3:30pm - 5:30pm 📍Urban Artistry Dance Academy: 11301 Georgia Ave.- 2nd Fl. (entrance on Price Ave.) @urbanartistrydc @wheaton_md 🎟 Entry: $25 ($30 Workshop + Triple Threat) 🎯 Stay for Triple Threat: A Pose & Parlay Whacking/Punking Jam! 💐 Legendary for New Way Performance, Jeff Miyake-Mugler’s ballroom career started formally in 1996 at the House of Escada’s First Ball held in Atlanta GA. In 1999 Jeff moved to Atlanta GA, where he then became a member of the Legendary House of Miyake Mugler. It was under Miyake-Mugler, that Jeff competed, battled and continued to perfect his craft in Voguing. Jeff would go on to walk other Vogue categories, such as Old Way Performance and Face with Performance. During that era, it was to be original, and Jeff was a formidable Force to Battle! Relocating to Washington DC brought on the desire for something new and creating a fresh start with former Mugler’s, Whitney Miyake Mugler, Shannon Miyake Mugler, Kevin Miyake Mugler, and myself, as the (4) original founders of the House, Comme Des Garcons. Years later, Jeff now enjoys the life of contributing back to his community. You’ll find Jeff dancing at some of DC’s finest House venue’s where just through exhibiting, has continued to show, why he’s Legendary in Performance, and over all asset to the Dance Community, House Community and Ballroom Community. @soulsocietyfest: October 3-11th! - Workshops, Panels, Battles, and more!
