Sometimes I wonder if the people who abandoned Teddy ever think about him 💚 If they wonder where he ended up, if someone took him in, or if he’s even still alive…

I wish they could see him now.

He’s been through a lot since I brought him home, but he’s also been loved through every bit of it. And somehow, this little cat who was once left behind now has thousands of people rooting for him. 😽😽

Teddy has no idea how many lives he’s touched. He’s just happy being Teddy, and I think that’s my favorite part of all. 💚

I had no idea that one text asking if anyone wanted a cat would lead me to my forever best friend!! 💚💚💚

Theodore went from a terrified cat who had been left outside, hiding in every corner he could find, to the cuddly, food-obsessed Basket Cat I can’t imagine my life without 😽😽 Sometimes the smallest decisions end up changing your entire life.

I started @positively_theodore because I never wanted another person to hear, “Your cat has FIV,” and immediately lose hope..

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been receiving messages from people telling us Theodore helped them through their own cat’s diagnosis. We also love hearing stories about your FIV+ kitties and the happy, healthy lives they’re living 😽

I know it probably sounds bad to admit I wanted a certain “type” of cat when so many were already waiting for homes… But the type I wanted had nothing to do with breed, color, or blue eyes.

I wanted the cat with FIV+ —the one someone else might be afraid to choose. And somehow, on my birthday, while my husband and I were only at the shelter to donate a cat tree and bed, we found Tuna. He was the only cat in their “FIV Fabulous” room 🩵

Now his adoption papers say that we share a birthday (twins forever) 😽😽 Tuna is the complete opposite of Ted: spunky, loud, and does whatever he wants without care. He is the perfect addition to our FIV+ family.

When Ted tested positive with his diagnosis, I couldn’t understand why anyone would look at him and see a life that wasn’t worth living.

I didn’t know much about FIV yet. I was scared, confused, and honestly had a lot to learn—but I knew I loved my cat, and I knew I wasn’t going to give up on him because of a diagnosis.

So I started learning. And the more I learned, the more I realized how much fear and misinformation still surrounds FIV+ cats..

But, Ted is still here. Still FIV+. Still loved beyond measure. And still teaching me more than I ever expected one little cat could 💚💚

This account exists because I never want another person to feel like their cat’s diagnosis automatically determines the value of their life.
