A rainbow hiding in the sunset clouds. October Skies are the best! by @positivepauly

Crazy how much the sky can change in 10 minutes. I was thinking the clouds would light up for an epic October sunset at #PaulsDock but they mostly disappeared quickly. Mother Nature is so fascinating! by @positivepauly

Happy 250, America! It’s complicated but we’re not dead yet.

June 30, 1992 — 34 years ago yesterday — the soundtrack album to the movie “Singles” was released. Here’s a couple of artifacts connected to the movie from my personal collection.

The Citizen Dick handbill is an original relic from the production that was taped to a pole somewhere.

The Fender Jazzmaster guitar was one of Chris’s used on tour in the mid-1990s and on the early-2000s Euphoria Mourning tour, Ric Markman played “Seasons” on it.

“Seasons” happens to be my favorite Chris Cornell song and the Singles soundtrack happens to be my favorite soundtrack album and one of my top-20 Deserted Island Albums ever. by @positivepauly

#NowSpinning @lipstate Noveller “I am the Weather” #vinyl

Pre-preferred this album the minute it was announced. Noveller has become easily one of my top-10 current artists. The soundscapes and magic that she concocts out of her instruments is innovative, fascinating, and otherworldly. If you don’t want to take my word for it, ask Iggy Pop, who she toured with and who makes a cameo here on this album. But truly she doesn’t need the endorsement - her music stands out in its own. by @positivepauly

My ASA daily coffee mug, 2011-2026: Rest In Piece(s)

We all know how vital morning coffee is. For a lot of us, the day doesn’t start until we’ve had a cup, and I’m certainly no exception! (For me, it’s probably not until after my second cup…)

I originally bought this cup in 2011 as @einmaleins was transitioning his German housewares store in Olympia, WA into a media production studio and shared office space. I held my first solo photography show there, and had so many memories of a wonderful spot downtown.

Life has changed so deeply for both of us over the years. Yet - my daily companion remained steadfast, faithfully holding the precious life-giving wellspring of energy and gratitude. Keeping the connection to Oly strong, as I generally brewed @olympiacoffee beans in my Gaggia espresso machine, I did consider practicing the art of Kintsugi with my faithful mug, but it’s time to accept its fate and make new memories with my next faithful vessel.

Thank you, faithful ASA mug, for so many years of life-sustaining service! by @positivepauly

Stabat Mater, Seattle WA. March 22, 2026 by @positivepauly

Happy 40th birthday to arguably the keystone album of the Seattle Grunge genre. Coming off the 36th anniversary of Andrew Wood’s death, which is another milestone in the era, almost 4 years to the day after this album was released, the supernova launched shortly thereafter. Considered a Holy Grail in the vinyl collecting community, this is a rare one to spin. I got this copy around 10 years ago, still sealed! The look on my son’s face when I cut open the cellophane and put it on the turntable (it was pretty spendy back then even) was priceless!

Long before Mother Love Bone became Pearl Jam, there was Green River, Malfunkshun, Skin Yard and U-Men. Soundgarden and the Melvins still moved through and held the foundation (though Matt Cameron would join Soundgarden after Green River split into Mudhoney & Mother Love Bone).

Listening to this on my current sound system really helps me experience the rawness and the energy that was there 40 years ago, long before many of these guys would reshape music as we know it. While I was around back then (I was just entering my teens) I was more into Depeche Mode, New Order, The Cure, and surf music back then. I’m friends with several folks nowadays, though, that lived through this era and were in the circle of friends that set this musical pulse.

What a legendary album and a terrific spin! by @positivepauly
