Last time I was in New York was for a school trip with little room to stray from schedule. Our group was fortunate enough to stumble into Central Park and see @possibly_poet writing poems for anyone who wanted one. From nonsensical stories to the emotional confessions that plague us daily, Charlie would write a poem for you.

As Claudia and I were waiting for our poem, two sweet girls from Mexico City came up and requested a poem on sensitivity. The ability to feel so much in a world that prioritizes concrete “facts” over the idea of empathy and compassion. A poem conceptualizing this super power and realizing the amount of strength there is in feeling emotion. About being ok with being emotional and celebrating that. This poem request had my heart immediately fill with a feeling I still can’t place. Somewhere between hope and heartening. These girls made us feel seen without even trying.

After having a 20 minute conversation with our new friends Isa and Avi, we learned so much about each other and realized how truly similar we are. There was an undoubtable connection that felt heaven sent. My hands were shaky and shivering in the December wind. Sweet, sweet Isa took note of this and gave me her gloves to wear as we eagerly waited for her and the kindest Avi to receive their poem.

Evidence of human connection surrounded us, seeing others in the park dancing to live music, playing fetch with dogs, carrying children up on their shoulders, but my physical proof was in the form of a lent pair of gloves. I had to share this story because it’s one I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Not because it’s some extravagant experience or luxurious event. But because of the actions and words by two strangers we can now confidently call our friends. In this huge city, there are millions of people living millions of lives. It’s hard to wrap your head around while being stuck in a small town or seeing it online (me) , but watching endless stories and connections being made in real time makes me even more grateful for living. And that’s the power of New York babyyy. taken in Central Park by @possibly_poet

“New beginnings…I feel like I’m feelin myself, but don’t quite know what that’ll bring”

oh
  oh god
  oh…

oh it does get so good you cry
and your body burns down into
ashes of past, and your veins are
  sunken sisters in the soil
  and from this well spring,
 once hell spring
  you uncurl outta havoc,
raise a heartbeat to your heaven and
  hear your angel answer
YOU ARE THE SAINT YOU SEEK
You are the blood that can bare
  bare the bliss,
  heartbeat
  heartbeat of humanity
  make your matter myth
  miracle
times cruel kiss will not catch
  you
  song of the soil
  fruit of life sing
  sing

I sat down with @possibly_poet in Central Park to share some of my life story. He adds a special artistic value to the story you tell. This is the poem he wrote after hearing mine. Thank you for this beautiful poem. 🤍 #poetry #centralpark #nyc taken in Central Park, New York by @possibly_poet

“Can you write about mangoes? I grew up in Egypt, so they always remind me of having them with my mom”

In the land where my mother became matter, some sweet milk of heaven falling from the sea before dawn, my mouth remembers ripe dreams and joins my earth to the forgotten

“We live in Kansas, but love to travel. Not everyone gets it”

idono
some angel said i outta see the worlds, talk to old ancestors in the attics of moments where the knowing comes a knocking and can get a kansan talkin till youre all tangled in the tomorrows you’ve never touched. Never knew too much mountain out in the wild blues, just rain with no rivers; simple veins of rains reach their wander where you know all the answers to sonder. Come lie, heart to the small sky, with the poems beyond here, with the pause, the prayer, the great golden yonder

“Still haven’t seen everything yet”

im hungry for street mutters
the fat jazz rythm of minds scatting triumphs & folley
under-gutter prayers to gods that scowl at "later"
now-hounds howling moon cries in the silver soaked night
tulip squares burrow in the black
while daisy drops scour up sky & guild the velvet veil
a garden of starving life
& hurt soled
i fall
famished for a bite
