This 30-foot sculpture symbolizes hope, transformation, and nature’s persistence in an urban environment. It is made of glass-fiber reinforced concrete and depicts a woman opening her chest to reveal a tunnel filled with greenery.

The statue was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change and represents resilience, rebirth, growth, and healing

Cursed ruins, lush nature, and peacocks roam freely here

This is LOKRUM ISLAND-

The story goes that on the night before their forced departure, the Benedictine monks gathered, pulled their hoods deep over their faces, lit candles, and turned them upside down. With heads bowed, murmuring prayers and somber chants, they began a nocturnal procession along the ancient path around their estate, mourning their loss and bidding farewell to their beautiful home.

In the faint, flickering candlelight, the dark and mysterious procession is said to have pronounced a curse upon all future owners of the island.

The curse remains a significant part of local culture today:

No Overnight Stays-It is strictly forbidden for visitors to stay on the island overnight. Locals often claim the curse is the reason the last ferry departs before sunset.

Take Nothing-Superstition dictates that visitors should not take anything from the island (not even a peacock feather or a stone) as it is believed to bring bad luck.

Lifting the Curse-Legend says the curse will only be lifted once all the wax from the monks’ candles has been collected

Legend tells of a young girl engaged to a sailor. When his ship didn’t return from a long voyage, she came to this exact spot every single day, dancing on the rocks and scanning the horizon for his sails. She waited her entire life, eventually dying of a broken heart on this very shore. 💔
