RISE UP, people! It’s time to gather in community to strengthen ourselves, find like minded people, support each other, be more effective.

I will help you start. If you want to start a rise up community, I will help you.

I know this is a longer video, but please share it. It needs to go out beyond the pottery community.

If you are a potter just hearing about this now, please join us on Facebook and follow all the links on @potters_rise_up Instagram bio to get connected.

I love it when people take the thing that gives them joy and turn it into something that pushes back against the darkness in this world.

That’s exactly what @potters_rise_up is doing.

Their most recent fundraiser pulled in over $12,000 for organizations protecting reproductive rights, queer youth, immigrant families, and people facing crisis. All through one beautifully simple idea: every $10 donation earns a chance to win one of one hundred handmade mugs.

And yes… that’s how I ended up with this gorgeous mug by Sophie Gordon, @birdsongsart .

What inspires me most is how familiar this feels.
I make soap, they make pottery… but we’re doing the same thing: taking something we love and turning it into a tool for good.

Clay, soap, creativity, community — none of it looks like traditional activism, but it’s surprisingly effective.

Potters Rise Up meets monthly on Zoom and welcomes new members passionate about their craft and looking for a meaningful way to plug in.

They’re already gearing up for their next fundraiser, so be sure to follow them — your next mug might just help fight fascism. by @potters_rise_up

Several months ago, I came across an Instagram post from @potters_rise_up ,an initiative where you donate to one of several causes and are entered into a drawing to win pottery made by a ceramic artist.

I chose to donate to The Trevor Project, an organization that supports and advocates for LGBTQ+ young people, including transgender youth. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️❤️

Today, completely unexpectedly, I received TWO absolutely beautiful mugs from Jenna at @palermoceramics !

What a lovely reminder that generosity has a way of coming full circle. Giving to a cause I believe in was a gift in itself, and receiving these beautiful handmade mugs was the sweetest bonus.

What a beautiful gift for giving.
Thank you, Jenna, and Potters Rise Up, for spreading kindness, creativity, and love through art.

These were commissioned for some very special humans. I’m honored. 🙏
Long long way from any peace, as the killing that’s still happening must stop immediately, but those mentsches certainly work and live towards it.

I can’t be the only one that’s more than a little pissed off right now, right?!

Today’s reel was ‘supposed’ to be quick snapshots of the over 20 new Halloween designs coming at you October 30. I think if I’ve learned anything being online and in business the past 5 years, it’s to always lead with what’s real. What’s really on my heart, on my mind + speak from that place. So many of you have come to be online friends, sharing thoughts in dm’s, reels to lighten hearts + connection when something absolutely fucking batshit happens in the news - an all too usual thing occurrence of late.

Anyway. I’m over here, designing mugs, using them to say what I can’t always string together. Thanks for being here with me + keeping me from screaming into the void (at least more than absolutely necessary😅)
