I did everything from trimming, throwing, carving, attaching handles, trimming through lids, forgetting to attach knobs, and glazing this day. EXHAUSTING. I also want to be more efficient in my throwing process! BAHHH by @potterybydeya

feels very satisfying to create exactly what you imagined in your head.

working on not having bottom heavy bowls + a small foot. I love for a bowl to look like it’s floating. these came out greats but I could trim more on the inset foot. we live and we learn! by @potterybydeya

Made using a traditional Japanese method called Kurinuki - carving from a single block of clay. This was a first draft made this past spring. Excited to see how the second draft comes out! by @potterybydeya

This past year I decided to dedicate myself fully to ceramics. I stumbled upon a video on Youtube, “A Day Making Some of the World’s Most Difficult Soba Noodles” and I deeply resonated with the art and philosophy of Shuichi Kotani. I decided I was going to make him a bowl and gift it to him during my annual trip to New York. I had limited time to do it, having to practice throwing bigger and bigger while working on many other school projects. I wasn’t happy with the final result as it had slumped in the kiln. I hesitated even gifting it to him because of all the self criticism but doing so allowed me to let all of that go and appreciate my work.

Today, I sold my pieces for the very first time and it was another moment where I could be happy about what I created. To see people interact with my pieces, tell me their stories, inspire their own creativity, and admire my work brought me so much joy.

I can’t wait to be back in the studio !!! <3 by @potterybydeya
