The 59kg class opened the show today in Lithuania and records started to fall almost immediately.Michael Slabic USA broke the long-standing junior squat world record and took the squat bronze with an easy looking 230kg on his third attempt. Not to be outdone, Franklin Leon took back the Masters 1 squat WR, also with 230kg, and looked comfortable doing it.Antoine Garcia FRA attempted to extend his own squat world record with 241kg but it was a little too heavy on the day.SQUAT RESULTS🥇 Antoine Garcia FRA - 235kg🥈 Kwaku Nyarko GHA - 230kg🥉 Michael Slabic USA - 230kg - Jr WRGiorgi Gelashvili GEO made good use of the opportunity to extend his own junior world record on bench with 155kg that also secured the gold medal.The defending world champion, Iván Campano Díaz ESP, made up some ground on bench and there was only 5kg between Diaz, Nyarko and Garcia at sub-total with Slabic another 15kg backBENCH RESULTS🥇 Giorgi Gelashvili GEO - 155kg - Jr WR🥈 Iván Campano Díaz ESP - 150kg🥉 Kemal Ergin NED - 147.5kgAfter the first round of deadlifts, Diaz and Slabic were neck and neck with Garcia and Nyarko closely matched 20kg back. Slabic broke the deadlift world record with a snappy 303kg on his second pull and moved comfortably out into the lead.In the final round, Diaz attempted a 15kg personal best with 290kg to try to take back the lead. It was a tough lift but he got it and the pressure mounted on Slabic. 305kg went on the bar. It shot to lockout but Slabic overbalanced and fell back to the platform, dashing his hopes of victory.Meanwhile Garcia and Kwaku were having a battle of their own for the remaining podium place. Nyarko went past with his final deadlift but Garcia took it back with a big smile at the top.DEADLIFT RESULTS🥇 Michael Slabic USA - 303kg - Open WR🥈 Iván Campano Díaz ESP - 290kg🥉 Yao-Wei You TPE - 270kg.Huge congratulations to Iván on his second world title and auto qualification for Sheffield. by @powerhispania
