Sometimes the greatest stories in football aren't about the players who became stars. They're about the men who refused to let life's setbacks determine their future.

James "Jimbo" Chappell's journey began at Lee High School in Montgomery, where a torn ACL cut his senior season short. He continued his playing career at Hinds Community College before transferring to Delta State, where he helped the Statesmen win the 2010 Gulf South Conference championship and reach the Division II National Championship game.

But another torn ACL eventually brought his playing career to an end.

For many, that might have been the end of their football story. For him, it was just the beginning of a much greater purpose.

He returned home, got married, and went to work at AutoZone. Coaching wasn't even on his radar.

That's where some of the most important people in his story stepped in. His wife, Britni as well as his parents.

Britni and his parents saw something in him that perhaps he hadn't fully recognized in himself. They encouraged him to return to school, finish his education, and invest in a future that extended far beyond the football field.

He listened.

He went back to school and earned his degree from the University of West Alabama.

What makes that part of his story so special is that Britni wasn't simply encouraging him to earn a diploma. She was helping him open doors that would eventually change the direction of his life.

His involvement in his church True Divine's sports ministry introduced him to coaching, and in 2017, he began his career at Carver High School.

From there, he spent two seasons at Jeff Davis learning under Lee Carter and DeAndre Austin before returning to Carver, where James Thompson entrusted him with his first offensive line room.

Then came Montgomery Catholic.

Working alongside Kirk Johnson, he became part of one of Alabama's most successful high school football programs, helping the Knights capture two state championships.

Today, his journey has brought him to Prattville, a program that has always held a special place in his heart.

Friday night, Powerhouse Sports makes its return to Legion Field in Jackson, Alabama, and waiting for us is one of the biggest showdowns in Class 3A Region 1! It’s our third and final game of the week!

On one sideline, you have the two-time defending state champion Jackson Aggies. After an 0-2 start to the season, Jackson has done nothing but respond. Five consecutive victories, a perfect 5-0 record in region play, and a team that seems to be getting more dangerous with every passing week. During that five-game stretch, the Aggies have outscored their opponents 147-46, including TWO shutouts! The message from Jackson is becoming pretty clear: The Aggies aren’t going anywhere!

But standing across that field? The winningest football program in Alabama high school history.

The T.R. Miller Tigers are coming to town, and they’re not making the trip just to admire the scenery! Winners of three straight, the Tigers enter this matchup with a 3-1 region record and plenty left to prove. Offensively, they’re averaging more than 30 points per game, while their defense has been holding opponents to just 15. Make no mistake, this is a dangerous football team with every intention of playing spoiler Friday night!

Two historic programs. Two teams riding winning streaks. One massive region showdown. And if you know anything about the history between these two programs, you know there’s never a shortage of intensity when the Tigers and Aggies get together!

Two undefeated region records. Two dominant defenses. One massive showdown on “The Hill.”👀🔥

For our SECOND Game of the Week, Powerhouse Sports is headed to Spanish Fort, where the Toros welcome the Gulf Shores Dolphins in a matchup that could go a long way toward deciding the Class 5A, Region 1 championship!

Both teams enter Friday night a perfect 5-0 in region play, but what makes this matchup so intriguing isn’t just what’s at stake. It’s HOW these two teams have gotten here.

Spanish Fort has been downright suffocating defensively. Through five region games, the Toros have surrendered just 21 TOTAL points, including TWO shutouts! That’s an average of just 4.2 points per game!

But don’t expect Gulf Shores to be intimidated. The Dolphins have built a defensive identity of their own, allowing just 12 points per game while continuing to establish themselves as one of the teams to beat in 5A.

And here’s the thing about Friday night…If you’re coming to “The Hill” expecting an offensive shootout, you might be showing up to the wrong football game.

ONEONTA…WE JUST COULDN’T STAY AWAY! 👀🔥

We enjoyed our first trip so much, we figured we’d do it again! This Friday night, Powerhouse Sports is headed BACK to Oneonta for one of our Games of the Week! And this time? A POTENTIAL REGION CHAMPIONSHIP IS ON THE LINE!

The Oneonta Redskins enter Friday night at 7-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in region play. Behind Sam Garrison and an explosive offense averaging 42 points per game, the Redskins have established themselves as one of the most dangerous teams in their classification.

But standing across the field? A team with championship aspirations of its own.

The Etowah Blue Devils (5-2, 5-0) are coming to town with one thing on their minds: leaving Oneonta one step closer to a region championship. Don’t let those two losses fool you. This is a dangerous football team, one that has taken care of business in region play and has every intention of making some noise when November arrives.
