These past couple weeks have tested me… but one thing I’ll never doubt is the love I’m surrounded by. My friends and family are truly beautiful souls… the type of support system that makes it impossible to stay down for long. A little old-school inspiration with a modern twist. 🍂 I’ve always believed that the best style tells a story, and this look is no exception. Something about this @jordancraigdenim jacket paired with the khakis gives me that classic, timeless feel that I absolutely love. It’s giving vintage Navy, it’s giving effortless fall style, and most importantly, it’s giving ME! 😂 One thing about a good jacket… it can take a simple outfit and turn it into a whole moment. I’m incredibly grateful for all the birthday love. Every year around my birthday I find myself reflecting on just how blessed I am, and this year was no different. A huge thank you to @oshhotel and @blueapplebeach for making my birthday feel so special, and an even bigger thank you to my bestie Corey for dropping everything to celebrate with me. I can’t believe I’m about to be 37. Where did the time go? I’m grateful my genes have been doing a lot of the heavy lifting because they’ve been incredibly kind to me, but eventually they’re going to clock out too. 😂 I guess this is the age where you realize you can’t rely on genetics forever. I first fell in love with Native Son through the works of Richard Wright, followed by the essays of my birthday brother and spiritual mentor, James Baldwin. Now that love continues through @nativesonnow . The way they intentionally platform beautiful Black LGBTQIA+ people of every size, shade, identity, and background isn’t just inspiring….it should be studied. If you’re not following them or a part of this movement, I genuinely have to ask… what are you doing? I’m incredibly grateful they chose me to be a part of their Pride series this June. It couldn’t have come at a better time because, in choosing me, they gave me something we all hope for as creators and as people: they let me know they see me. And sometimes, being seen is one of the greatest gifts you can receive. Lastly, I have to give so much love to the incredible photographers @erichartjr @iamdhud who captured these moments and the amazingly talented makeup artist @thekeithexperience who helped bring this vision to life. Thank you all for your artistry, your care, and for making me feel celebrated every step of the way.
