I’d had my heart set on @bdg100_official for a while, dreaming of conquering my first virgin ultra trail in my hometown. The grind was real, training non-stop, and I felt absolutely ready. The peak training was on point, tapering was good, and my body was in perfect condition for the race.

My race plan was set, and my legs felt good. Pacing, fueling, all of it was according to the plan until at 30 km, things took a turn for the worse. An ankle sprain literally stopped me dead in my tracks. From a top 20, I watched people pass me, one by one. Angry, frustrated, my head kept telling me to DNF. I had to switch from race mode to survival mode for the rest of the race.

And then I saw it. The finish line.

All that anger, all that sadness, it just melted away. Seeing my family and friends waiting for me at the finish lane hit me different. The pain, the frustration—it wasn’t about the race anymore. It was about them. It was about finishing what I started for myself, for the people who believe in me.

This race taught me a lot. Sometimes you have to let go of the plan and just accept the outcome. The journey is the most important part, not the result.

70k ✅
Next year gonna be 100k

Huge thanks to my family for their endless support, and to my friends who waited for me at the finish line: @reisyaladindya , @raisalikhwn , @the_end_of_athena , and @madsyamur .
And to my training buddies, @augustianda and @naufalrofi , and my strength training buddy @raysenaapr . God Bless 🙏🏿

Dieng Caldera Race 45km

My First Ultra didn’t go as planned.

Just one week before race day, i caught a fever and chesty cough. I was on meds the entire week and couldn’t run at all until the day i left to Dieng. Even the warm-up run felt like struggle, with phlegm and a runny nose tagging along with every breath. But I had to finish what I started.

Plan: Sub 10 hours ❌
Reality: 12 hours 23 min ✅ (COT 17 hours)

Started at 5 AM in the cold mist of Dieng, coughing non-stop through every ascent. Everything went as planned until downhill from Mt. Sindoro my first ever 3000m+ peak. My knees screamed in pain. I slipped again and again. I hit my lowest low and even thought:
“Should I just DNF? My knee’s busted, my toe’s blistered, and it’s only Km 12??”
But at Waterstation 2, after finally eating some fruits and drink some cola, my energy came back.

From freezing fog to burning sun in the open fields before Mt. Sibuthak, i got dehydrated, hungry, and can’t run, i need eating some real food. Luckily Mas @ancanugrah showed up like a trail angel and stayed with me until Waterstation 4.

At WS 4, I was Drained. I sat for a while, changed my socks and eating some noodle and fruits and somehow found the strength to push again. My only goal now is to finish before adzan Maghrib. And at 17:22:30 I did…

“Strength isn’t always about speed. Sometimes, it’s about showing up broken, and still choosing to continue.”

Not how I imagined it, but I did it. I’m an Ultra Runner now 🤣

thanks to @diengcalderarace being such an incredible event for my first ever ultra trail race. Top notch course markings, waterstation and heartwarming cheers along the way, everything was just spot on.
Definitely gonna “remedial” someday. Best 💯
