My First Pujo and DASAI at Work in North East India
As someone from North India, where Diwali and Holi dominate the festive calendar, my first Durga Puja in the North East was nothing short of eye-opening. I had seen Pujo celebrations in Delhi, usually in specific Bengali community pandals—but here, it was on a completely different scale. The entire city seemed to breathe in rhythm with the sound of dhaak (drums).

At work, the atmosphere was unlike anything I’d experienced before. In Delhi, festival days often mean wrapping up early or maybe exchanging sweets in the office. Here, colleagues were talking about pandal-hopping routes, cultural competitions, and where to find the best bhog. Meetings were rescheduled without hesitation, and instead of after-work drinks, the plan was to explore pandals together.

What struck me most was the warmth. Seniors who I expected to be distant invited me to join their families for Pujo feasts. Conversations flowed naturally between work tasks and festival stories. There was no sharp divide between professional and personal life—it was all part of one larger, inclusive community.

Back home, I was used to a more structured, target-driven, sometimes stressful environment. Here, I saw how work could adapt around life, not the other way around. The balance, the respect for tradition, and the politeness in communication were refreshing.

My first Pujo in the North East taught me more than cultural nuances—it showed me a different way of looking at work itself: one where community and celebration are as important as deadlines and deliverables. #summithotels #sumitmitruka by @praritag
