Another character for my upcoming short film. I was really excited to try animating a caterpillar because I knew it would be super tricky.

I ended up using Bao BOA from @aescripts for the body of the caterpillar and I used “create nulls from path” to give me some control points and to connect the limbs and head. I’ve had my eye on BOA for a while but hadn’t picked it up yet. It’s actually on sale this week at aescripts so you should definitely check it out (no, this is not sponsored). The limbs of the humanoid are simple IK using DUIK and then the little rope is Connect Layers Pro, which is also on aescripts.com.

I decided to do a 2024 version of this tides 🌊 video (much like I did for 2023). This time some wildlife friends are making an appearance! 🦅🐬

This was created by sequencing scanned pages from the 2024 Southern California Tidelog from Pacific Publishers. It wasn’t quite as tedious as last year since I had done a bit of the groundwork already. But going frame by frame to line them all up still reminded me how crazy us animators are.

Horizon Holidays by Abram Games was first published in 1960. I honestly don’t know very much about the designer or this work but I was very excited to be a part of @marclawrence_art Design Before Motion collab.

I was assigned the challenge of animating this poster and it was a ton of fun. The biggest challenge was trying to give it some texture, and I’m pretty happy with the results.

In 2019 I created this same thing in After Effects. It’s called a lissajous curve table. Its pretty mezmerizing but making this kind of thing in After Effects is very slow to render.

I thought recreating this would be a perfect use case for Cavalry, and a nice way to learn the software a bit more. So here it is and I have to say Cavalry was the perfect tool for the job! by @prbmotion

2023 wrap video! Actually, it's just the tides of Southern California. I created it by sequencing scanned pages from the Southern California Tidelog, courtesy of Pacific Publishers. The entire process was quite tedious, but the end result was worth it! This project reminded me that some of the best personal projects stem from simply asking, "what would happen if...?" and just jumping in. playing with more collage ish designs. Photoshop beta’s generative fill yielded some very usable smoke and fire for this. it’s pretty fun being able to generate that kind of “stock” asset quickly inside Ps.
