Unfortunately, our dear comrade Bebhinn had to step back from THE PEOPLE'S ROUNDTABLE for just a moment. Fortunately, that means we get to meet yet another excellent character from @unitedtenantsalbany. So, without any further ado, I'm pleased to introduce you to our friend CANYON RYAN!

Canyon is the Executive Director of United Tenants of Albany, an organization dedicated to ending homelessness by empowering tenants. Under their stewardship, the team at UTA has helped thousands of tenants in eviction proceedings, organized more than 2% of the city of Albany into autonomous tenant unions, and distributed more than $2,000,000 in emergency rental assistance to prevent over 1,000 evictions, in addition to passing numerous tenant protections at the local and state level.

After getting their Associate Degree from Onondaga Community College they moved to Albany full-time, enticed by the plethora of socialist organizations they were organizing with during an uninspiring internship with the NYS Assembly in 2017. They later received a Master's of International Affairs from SUNY Albany, one month before becoming interim director of UTA. Canyon and their spouse share an apartment with three adorable cats. Canyon is also a board member of Tenants PAC and Albany Landlord Report Card, and a member of the NYS Tenant Bloc. In their free time, Canyon enjoys playing basketball, reading, writing, and listening to music.

If you'd like to hear more about what Canyon, Eduardo, and Lacey have to say about Albany, the World and everything in between, you are invited to come to @youthfxfilm (25 Warren St, Albany 12202) to see them live this Sunday (07/26) from 2-4pm as they sit around THE PEOPLE'S ROUNDTABLE. taken in Youth FX by @prcalbany

This Sunday! The People’s Roundtable 🗣️

2:00-4:00pm
July 26 2026
@youthfxfilm
25 Warren St
Albany NY

Over the past year, the Truth & Justice For Palestine Coalition (TJ4P) began looking at the way WAMC’s The Roundtable covered current events, and why. We found that the show featured US and Israeli military affiliated experts 103 times and that 77% of the panels exclusively featured white guests. Conversely, our research also showed comparatively tiny percentages of Black, brown, queer, Muslim, Palestinian and disabled panelists.

Our roundtable, The People’s Roundtable, offers a vision for what these conversations could look like instead. Moderated by former Albany Common Council Member and former WAMC Roundtable panelist Barbara Smith, our guests Bebhinn Francis (UTA tenant organizer), Eduardo Rodriguez (journalist), and Lacey Wilson (public historian) shall engage in a wide-ranging analytical discussion on the pressing topics of the day, offering critical perspectives that are hard to find in the mainstream media.

SO, please join us from 2-4pm on Sunday July 26th, either in-person at YouthFX (25 Warren St. Albany) or by streaming online! Just minutes from the freeway, our event is easily accessible by car (plenty of parking!) or by bus (near stops for CDTA routes 922/923 and 100) in Albany’s historic South End. We look forward to seeing you there!

Accessibility: This is a mask-required event! High-filtration masks will be provided for respiratory safety. YouthFX is a wheelchair-accessible facility. If you have any accessibility questions requests, please reach out to us!

Support beekeeping workshops across Palestine! Following a successful series of beekeeping workshops in Palestine during 2025-26, in Jenin, Tulkarem, Bethlehem University, and Al-Khalil, we are now fundraising $2,500 to support a new round of beekeeping workshops in the West Bank. Our goal is to strengthen beekeeping practices in the West Bank by providing practical training materials and protective gear that support both theoretical education and hands-on learning. More specifically funds will provide beekeeping suits, gloves, glass honey extractors, educational beehives, bee smokers and more, for both trainers and trainees during practical sessions. Beekeeping is an act of resistance and to support Beekeeping education is to support land and food sovereignty.

Donate to these beekeeping workshops @combcutters (venmo) or combcutters@gmail.com (zelle/paypal) and write “series” or 🌱 in the note. by @prcalbany

SAVE DR. HUSSAM ABU SAFIYA: Contact your members of Congress and the State Department to demand that Israel immediately release Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a highly esteemed, courageous Palestinian doctor and hospital director kidnapped by Israel in Gaza and held without charge or trial since December 2024. Following torture and abuse in an Israeli prison, funded by U.S. taxpayer dollars, Dr. Abu Safiya is in critical condition requiring immediate medical intervention.

Use the form letter provided by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (@cair_national) at the QR Code to demand Dr. Abu Safiya's immediate release, the provision of urgent medical care, and the release of all Palestinian medical personnel and others held illegally by Israel.

Please speak up now before it is too late.

Organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and Physicians for Human Rights Israel have called for Dr. Abu Safiya’s immediate release, along with Senators Van Hollen and Sanders, and House reps Tlaib, Ocasio-Cortez, Ramirez, Omar, McGovern, McCollum, Jayapal and Foushee. Still, the Trump administration, democratic and republican leadership, and most New York representatives, including Senators Schumer, Gillibrand and NY-19 House rep Riley, have remained disgracefully silent.

Scan the QR Code and send CAIR’S letter to your representatives, or use this link:
https://action.cair.com/a/free-dr-abu-safiya

AND CALL
Senator Schumer: 202-224-6542
Senator Gillibrand: 202-224-4451
Rep. Riley (NY-19): 202-225-5441 by @prcalbany

Today the Porcupines joined our comrades @upstateafc @pslhudsonvalley @prcalbany in celebrating a REAL Pride. We recognize that Pride started as a riot in defense of those most vulnerable amongst us, and we carry that in all we do! No Pride in Genocide! Long live the Resistance 🔻🔻🔻🔻🌈

HAPPENING NOW: The movement for liberation takes Capital Pride. Trump says get back, we say fight back! Pride means fight back!

The far-right is going on attack, blaming LGBTQ+ people for the problems that the ruling class created and proposing over 600 anti-LGBTQ+ laws last year alone, mostly targeting trans youth.

We are out here today to say no to these attacks! The same billionaire class who oppresses LGBTQ+ people are the ones funding ICE and endless war, attacking Black America, and driving up the cost of living for the majority of us. But we refuse to be divided! We will continue to fight for a world where the whole working class, including LGBTQ+ people, has what we need to thrive. by @prcalbany
