An der TU Chemnitz zeigt das Start-up pre•matter, wie aus ökologischen Herausforderungen innovative Geschäftsideen entstehen. ♻️

Von April 2025 bis März 2026 entwickelten die beiden Gründerinnen Anne Richter und Kristin Nebauer im Rahmen eines EXIST-Gründungsstipendiums an der Professur für Textile Technologien innovative Materialien aus Woll- und Textilresten.

Anstatt diese Materialien zu entsorgen, verfolgt das Start-up das Ziel, sie wieder in den Wertstoffkreislauf zurückzuführen und für neue Anwendungen nutzbar zu machen.

Dabei werden die beiden Textildesignerinnen vom Gründungsnetzwerk SAXEED und vom Sächsischen Textilforschungsinstitut e. V. unterstützt. Seit Mai 2026 wird das Team durch das Technologiegründungsstipendium der Sächsischen Aufbaubank (SAB) gefördert.

Aktuell arbeitet pre•matter an der Finalisierung des Prototyps aus Wolle und bereitet den Markteintritt des ersten Produkts vor.

🇬🇧 At Chemnitz University of Technology, the start-up pre•matter is demonstrating how environmental challenges can give rise to innovative business ideas. ♻️

From April 2025 to March 2026, the two founders, Anne Richter and Kristin Nebauer, developed innovative materials from wool and textile scraps as part of an EXIST start-up grant at the Chair of Textile Technologies. Rather than disposing of these materials, the start-up aims to reintroduce them into the recycling cycle and make them usable for new applications. The two textile designers are supported in this endeavour by the SAXEED start-up network and the Saxon Textile Research Institute e. V. Since May 2026, the team has been funded by the technology start-up grant from the Saxon Development Bank (SAB).

pre•matter is currently working on finalising the wool prototype and preparing to launch its first product onto the market. by @pre_matter

we close the loop for textile waste

Our vision has been our focus for the past year, and we have been working on making it a reality. We want to raise awareness of the textile waste products that are still being thrown away or burned every day. We are questioning the value of fabric scraps and fibre waste by developing new, practical solutions for reusing them.
Everything we need to close the loop already exists.

Our first product will be launched in the coming months. We can't wait to share more with you soon!

Seit einem Jahr arbeiten wir daran, unsere Vision zur Realität werden zu lassen. Wir wollen ein neues Bewusstsein für textile Abfallprodukte schaffen, die bis heute Tag für Tag weggeworfen oder verbrannt werden. Wir stellen den Wert von Stoffresten und Faserabfällen offen in Frage, indem wir neue und praktikable Lösungen für die Inwertsetzung erarbeiten.
Was wir brauchen, um den Kreis zu schließen, ist bereits da.

In den kommenden Monaten werden wir unser erstes Produkt auf den Markt bringen. Wir freuen uns darauf, euch bald mehr zu verraten.

We are really excited to be part of the Technology Start-up Grant program offered by the Sächsische Aufbaubank, which started on May 1, 2026. The grant will support us for one year during the founding phase and is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus) and the Saxon State Parliament. This funding will help us through the next exciting phase of our journey as a start-up.

Wir freuen uns sehr darüber seit dem ersten Mai 2026 Stipendiatinnen des Technologiegründungsstipendium der Sächsischen Aufbaubank zu sein. Das Stipendium unterstützt uns ein Jahr lang bei der Gründung und wird aus Mitteln des Europäischen Sozialfonds Plus (ESF Plus) sowie vom Freistaat Sachsen finanziert. Mit dieser Unterstützung im Rücken freuen wir uns umso mehr auf die nächste spannende Phase unseres Gründungsprozesses.

The final months of 2025 brought exciting connections and further progress with our sustainable business model and first product.
At Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, we got lots of inspiration: from innovative materials to bold design concepts. @dutchdesignweek
Working together to develop prototypes for our product once again demonstrated the importance of networking and collaborative work. Thanks @materialbuffet_2ndhandbaumarkt @studio.ffa for your support.
At the 17th STFi Colloquium “Recycling for Textiles,” we had the opportunity to present our EXIST grant through a talk and an exhibition. Thank you for your interest and the great conversations!

Die letzten Monate in 2025 waren für uns geprägt von spannenden Begegnungen, der Weiterentwicklung unseres nachhaltigen Geschäftsmodells und unseres ersten Produktes.

Half-time in our EXIST start-up grant!
The last three months have been intense: a lot of time in the lab, exciting discussions with our growing network, and important insights from coaching sessions and exchange formats.
We are taking many ideas and a lot of energy with us into the second half — and we are looking forward to the next steps.

✨ 3 months of our start-up grant - a first review!

We took part in networking events, worked on the value chain and prepared the basis for our Reformed Wool project.
🔬 The test phase has started: the first tests on textile production and processing are running - materials, methods and processes are being tested.
🤝 The exchange with our project partners has given us important impulses. And in coaching sessions with Victoria Ulbricht, we worked intensively on a market and target group analysis - an important step for our next milestones!

✨ 3 Monate Gründungsstipendium – ein erster Rückblick!

Wir haben an Netzwerkveranstaltungen teilgenommen, die Wertschöpfungskette vorbereitet und den Grundstein für unser Projekt Reformed Wool gelegt.
🔬 Die Testphase ist gestartet: Erste Versuche zur Textilherstellung und -verarbeitung laufen – Materialien, Verfahren und Prozesse stehen auf dem Prüfstand.
🤝 Der Austausch mit unseren Projektpartnern hat uns wichtige Impulse gegeben. Und im Coaching mit Victoria Ulbricht haben wir intensiv an einer Markt- und Zielgruppenanalyse gearbeitet – ein wichtiger Schritt für unsere nächsten Meilensteine!

We are very happy to receive the »eku Zukunftspreis 2024», awarded by the Saxon Ministry of Energy, Climate, Environment and Agriculture (SMEKUL). With our project »from waste to function«, we won the first prize among the top ten projects in the »eku idea« category.

In this pilot project, we are focusing on the regional and circular processing of textile waste made of wool. We want to show that this raw material can be used in high-quality products for interior design and that the environmental impact of the textile industry can be reduced.

Wir freuen uns sehr über die Auszeichnung mit dem eku Zukunftspreis 2024, verliehen vom Sächsischen Ministerium für Energie, Klima, Umwelt und Landwirtschaft (SMEKUL).

Mit unserer Projektidee „from waste to function“ haben wir den ersten Platz unter den Top-Ten-Projekten in der Kategorie »eku idee« belegt. In diesem Pilotprojekt richten wir den Fokus auf die regionale und zirkuläre Verarbeitung von textilen Abfällen aus Wolle. Wir wollen zeigen, dass dieser Rohstoff für hochwertige Produkte im Interior Design genutzt werden kann und so Umweltauswirkungen der Textilindustrie reduziert werden können.

During the process of spinning wool yarns, there are fibers which are sorted out. These fibers are still of good quality, so we reuse them. This waste comes from eastern Germany.

Während des Spinnprozesses von Wollgarnen gibt es Fasern, die aussortiert werden. Sie sind noch von guter Qualität, weshalb wir sie weiterverwenden. Diese Abfälle kommen aus Ostdeutschland.

The waste materials that we use come in a wide variety: for example cutting waste from knitted fabrics made from 100% finest merino wool (northern Germany) and yarn waste from pure wool (south of Germany).

Die Abfälle, die wir verwenden, gibt es in großer Vielfalt: zum Beispiel Schnittreste von Gestricken aus 100% feinster Merinowolle (Norddeutschland) und Garnreste aus reiner Wolle (Süddeutschland).
