Excited to share that @precedent.vc has been named to Inc.’s 2026 Founder-Friendly Investors list! When I started @precedent.vc my vision was to build more than a venture fund. I wanted to create an ecosystem where founders feel supported, challenged, and empowered to build companies that redefine what’s possible. Having been a founder myself, I know how much the right investors can matter. It’s not just about capital. It’s about having people in your corner who believe in your vision, bring valuable perspectives, and show up through the challenges of building something new. This recognition is especially meaningful because being founder-friendly is at the heart of what we’re building. I’m incredibly grateful to the founders who trust us, our LPs, and the growing community of investors, operators, and partners helping shape the Precedent ecosystem. Thank you to Inc. for this recognition. We’re excited to keep backing the founders who are breaking precedent and building what’s next. by @precedent.vc
What an incredible few days at the Inc. 5000 Conference & Gala in Dallas. There’s something energizing about being surrounded by founders, entrepreneurs, and leaders who are challenging conventions and building what comes next. I had the pleasure of joining Quaid Walker, co-founder and CEO of Bezel, for a conversation on Rethinking the Customer Experience: How the Best Companies Turn Insights Into Opportunity. We explored how the most transformative companies recognize shifts in customer behavior, remove friction, build trust, and turn insights into meaningful innovation. Having built TaskRabbit and now investing in the next generation of founders through @precedent.vc I’m always interested in how entrepreneurs identify opportunities others haven’t yet recognized. Beyond the conversations on stage, it was wonderful to connect with so many people building ambitious companies and creating lasting impact. Thank you to the Inc. team for bringing together such an inspiring community and for celebrating the entrepreneurs shaping the future of business. by @precedent.vc
The future of work isn’t waiting to be rewritten. It’s already happening. At our latest Unprecedented Lunch, The Work Rewrite: Redesigning Work for the AI Era, we brought together founders, operators, and investors for a candid conversation about how AI is transforming the way we work, build teams, and lead organizations. From the rise of flexible, distributed teams to the changing role of human contribution, we explored what happens when the traditional playbook for work no longer applies. A special thank you to Gary Swart, former CEO of oDesk (now Upwork), and Jean-Denis Greze, Co-Founder and CEO of Town, for sharing their perspectives and helping us think more deeply about where work goes from here. What I value most about these gatherings is the opportunity to bring together people who aren’t just observing change, but actively shaping it. Different experiences, different perspectives, and a shared willingness to question what we’ve always accepted as normal. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the conversation, and to our generous partners @taskrabbit @justworks and @awaysquared for helping make this gathering possible. This is what we’re building through @precedent.vc a collective of people willing to challenge assumptions, exchange ideas, and help shape the next generation of companies, capital, and culture. by @precedent.vc
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! 💛 September has been a month of momentum across the Precedent.vc portfolio, around the founders breaking out, and within the fund itself. And I’ve been thinking a lot about where momentum starts. This month, I shared with USA TODAY why Latino entrepreneurs are such a powerful force in business creation. Entrepreneurship is often born from necessity, independence, and the willingness to build a path where one didn’t exist before. That spirit of breaking precedent is deeply personal to me and central to what we’re building at Precedent.vc. We’re seeing it across the portfolio. 🥂 Our Unprecedented Lunch series continues to bring founders, operators, and investors around the table to challenge old playbooks from retail, to the future of work, to who should control our health data. 🎙️ Season 3 of @breakingprecedent is underway, starting with Anne Wojcicki on challenging one of healthcare’s most entrenched assumptions: who gets access to their own health information. At Precedent.vc, we invest at the earliest stages—pre-seed and seed—in founders building breakout companies that reshape consumer experiences by rebuilding the systems behind them. Because the companies that change categories rarely start by accepting the way things have always been done. They start by asking: Does it really have to be this way? Swipe through for a look at where we’ve been over the past 30 days. → #HispanicHeritageMonth #PrecedentVC #VentureCapital #Startups #Founders BreakingPrecedent by @precedent.vc
First time taking the Breaking Precedent keynote to the stage … and had a ball🎤⚡️ I’ve spent years thinking about what it actually takes to challenge the status quo. Not just to break rules, but to recognize the invisible precedents shaping what we believe is possible. In this keynote, I share the PEAK framework, the stories and lessons behind Breaking Precedent, and your Precedent Tree 🌳, a way to trace what you’ve inherited, decide what’s worth carrying forward, and identify what’s yours to change. Because breaking precedent isn’t about what changes for you. It’s about what changes BECAUSE OF YOU. It’s about knowing what to preserve, what to question, and what you’re willing to rewrite. I’ve broken a few precedents in my life. Now it’s your turn: What precedent will you break? 🌳⚡️ #BreakingPrecedent #RebelLogic #PrecedentBreaker #keynote by @precedent.vc
August was a month of building: our team, our portfolio, and the conversations shaping what comes next. One thing keeps showing up: the best people and ideas don’t just predict the future. They challenge the assumptions standing in its way. A few August highlights: ✨ Welcoming Anjali Menon and Jeff Berman to the Precedent team, bringing deep experience across company building, community, and venture. 🚀 Investing in Town, a company rethinking how AI can transform the way we work and communicate. 🎙️ Sitting down with Joanna Strober on Inc.’s podcast to talk about entrepreneurship, venture, and what it takes to build something that hasn’t existed before. The common thread across all three: exceptional people willing to question how things have always been done and build a better way forward. Grateful for the founders, investors, operators, and friends continuing to build the Precedent community with us. #PrecedentVC #BreakingPrecedent #Startups #VentureCapital #Founders by @precedent.vc
There’s so much to take away from this conversation. 🎙️ On the latest episode of the Entreprenista Podcast, @stephjillcartin sits down with @leah_solivan, founder of @taskrabbit and founder & general partner of @precedent.vc, to talk about what it really looked like to build a company from the ground up. Leah shares how a simple problem, running out of dog food while living in Boston, sparked the idea for TaskRabbit, and how she took the leap from a secure job at IBM to cashing out $27,000 from her pension to build something of her own. From building the first version of the platform from her apartment and finding her first taskers, to raising money during the 2008 financial crisis and scaling to 44 markets before selling to IKEA, her story is such a powerful reminder that big companies often start with one small idea and a whole lot of guts. 🎧 Comment PODCAST to listen to the full interview. by @precedent.vc
She spent a decade building something the world had never seen: a platform that gave people an entirely new way to work and a new way to get things done. @leah_solivan launched @taskrabbit in 2008 with $27,000 and a belief that technology could connect neighbors in a way the world hadn't experienced yet. She raised through a recession, scaled across 44 markets, and sold the company to IKEA in 2017, with the TaskRabbit brand fully intact and the mission still alive. Along the way, she raised more than $50 million from firms like Lightspeed, Founders Fund, and First Round Capital. Today, she's using everything she learned to support the next generation of entrepreneurs as Managing Partner of Precedent VC, where she's backed more than 150 companies and hosts the @breakingprecedent podcast. This is what it looks like when a founder goes the full distance, then turns around to help others do the same. Comment PODCAST to listen to Leah Solivan's full interview. 🩷 by @precedent.vc
This week’s Breaking Precedent card asks: What problem keeps circling back to you? Could you be the one to solve it? Some problems don’t leave you alone. They keep showing up in your work.
In your conversations.
In your frustration.
In the gap between what exists and what you believe should exist. For me, one of those problems has been the way capital moves. After building TaskRabbit, sitting on both sides of the table, and now raising four kids while investing in the next generation of founders, I keep coming back to the same question: What would venture look like if it were built with more proximity, more access, and a deeper belief in founders who don’t fit the old patterns? So much of the capital system still rewards familiarity over merit. Pattern recognition over original thinking. Proximity over potential. That is one of the reasons I built @precedent.vc Because sometimes the problem that keeps circling back to you is not just something to observe. It is something you are being called to build against. June was packed. From hosting founders, investors, and operators at the Finger Lakes Summit, to learning from Eric Ries over lunch, to sharing conversations on the Breaking Precedent podcast, it was a month full of ideas that challenged conventional thinking. One thing keeps showing up: the biggest opportunities often come from questioning assumptions everyone else accepts. A few June highlights: ✨ The Finger Lakes Summit and the incredible community that makes it special. 🎙️ New Breaking Precedent conversations (plus a few favorite episodes while we’re on summer break). 🍽️ An unforgettable lunch with Eric Ries on mission, trust, and long-term thinking. 📰 Podcast appearances and conversations about venture, AI, and building what doesn’t exist yet. If you’re building something unconventional, you’re in good company. Thanks to everyone who’s been reading, listening, showing up, and helping build the Precedent community. More to come. #PrecedentVC #BreakingPrecedent #Startups #VentureCapital #Founders by @precedent.vc
