WE STAND STRONG 💪🏾🌊

Another Sunday, another cleanup.
Again and again, we collect huge amounts of textile waste from our beach.

But cleaning the beach is not the solution. We need to stop waste before it reaches our beaches and ocean. And we need stronger regulations to stop Ghana from becoming a dumping ground for the global fast fashion industry.

Together, we keep going. One week at a time. 💚

A cleaner coastline doesn’t happen overnight. It takes showing up again and again.

On 19 September, 311 people came together at Kinshasha Beach and Ship Hauzz Beach in Jamestown for World Cleanup Day, removing 22,450 kg of waste from the shoreline in just 57 minutes.

This couldn’t have happened without European Union in Ghana (@europeinghana) with Our Planet EU (@ourplanet_eu), EU Diplomacy (@eudiplomacy), Austria in Ghana (@austriainghana) and Hungary in Ghana showing up at the shoreline alongside June 4 Taskforce (@junefourtaskforce), Kanta Keepers (@kantakeepers), Planet Waves @planetwaves.ngo) and Precious Plastic (@preciousplastic_accra) for an afternoon of collective cleanup work.

Different people. Different organisations. One shoreline.

For Tide Turners, cleanup is not a once-a-year activity. It is work we return to every Tuesday. And every cleanup helps us respond to the waste already reaching our shores, while documenting what we’re finding and understanding the scale of what our communities are dealing with.

We also had the opportunity to present the EU team with an upcycled EU flag made by The Or Foundation’s (@theorispresent) RemanuFACTORY team, giving discarded material another life and a new purpose.

Thank you to everyone who showed up and worked alongside us.

And tomorrow, we’re back on the shoreline. Our work continues.

World Cleanup Day couldn’t have happened without the people who showed up.

Thank you to the European Union in Ghana (@europeinghana) with Our Planet EU (@ourplanet_eu), EU Diplomacy (@eudiplomacy), and Austria in the EU (@austriainghana) and all our community partners who joined Tide Turners on the shoreline: June 4 Taskforce (@junefourtaskforce), Kanta Keepers (@kantakeepers), Planet Waves (@planetwaves.ngo) and Precious Plastic (@preciousplastic_accra).

With the massive progress and impact, we want to also thank every volunteer, community member, team members of Tide Turners and participant who came ready to work.

Cleanups matter. They bring people together to care for the places we share, experience the reality of the waste reaching our shores, and take responsibility for what is already here.

We appreciate everyone who shared the shoreline with us.

One cleanup at a time.

WORLD CLEANUP DAY 2026 🌍🌊

Last Saturday, together with the amazing OR Foundation, Tide Turners, the European Union and many other organizations and volunteers, we removed an incredible 22,450 kg of waste from Jamestown Beach.

A great achievement. But with every tide and every new week, tons of garbage arrive on our beaches again. When will it stop?

Our ocean and our beautiful beaches are the last exit.

We need real solutions inside the city — especially around the Korle Lagoon, open drains and waterways — to stop the garbage before it reaches us at the coast.

But most importantly, the world needs much stronger rules. It is unbelievable that huge amounts of low-quality fast-fashion textiles are still being shipped to Ghana — much of it cannot be reused at all. It is just waste and ends up in the waterways.

Wake up, world! 🌍
One Love. One Ocean. 💙🌊

Getting ready for World Cleanup Day celebration.

We are celebrating World Cleanup Day on 19th September!

AND we'd be joined by the European Union in Ghana (@europeinghana), The Or Foundation (@theorispresent), June 4 Taskforce (@junefourtaskforce), Kanta Keepers (@kantakeepers), Precious Plastics Accra (@preciousplastic_accra), and Planet Waves (@planetwaves.ngo), for an afternoon cleanup at Kinshasha Beach, Jamestown (stretching to Ship Hauzz Beach)

No big speeches. Just people, tools and the shoreline of Jamestown that needs to be cleaned and restored.

Bring a friend and come ready to clean. See you!

🇬🇭 Let’s go Ghana – let’s bring National Sanitation Day back to life! 🌍🧹

Every first Saturday of the month, we meet at Osu Klottey Lagoon Beach for National Sanitation Day.

Sometimes we are many, sometimes we are only a few. Life is not easy, and especially in times of hardship and poverty, doing voluntary work is something very special.

But we keep going. 💚

We believe that protecting and caring for nature is like going to church. 🙏🏿🌱
It is our way of showing respect, giving something back and keeping faith in a better future.

We hope more people will join us – and that more partners and sponsors will help us grow this movement.

These pictures are from yesterday.
Step by step. Month by month. We keep going.

One Love. One Ocean. 🌊💚🇬🇭
