Just that one mom who is probably taking pictures & yelling “USE YOUR THROTTLE” && taking random side quests

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

After years of only having “doofy” on the wall and the only blood shed was in my boots, I finally got the big boy down for my 30th.

Big thank you to Brad Walters at @hellscanyonoutfitters for getting me out there and having the BEST hunting outfitter around.
My husband @alanroness for pushing me through the toughest hell holes every year and helping me get to this incredible moment. You went from guiding me to being an actual guide. Proud of you love.
My brother @gabbs34 for saying yes to this side quest and being part of this hunt and for getting his bear down that morning.
&& my little dude @cartercaulpetzer811 for taking some time off from his dirt bike to roam the mountains with us.

Kicked off the season with this big bull, but somehow the bull wasn’t even the best part. 🤎

My youngest has been asking to come along on our hunts for what feels like forever. This year he’s worked his butt off chasing his own dreams in motocross, and with everything that comes with that, we honestly weren’t sure we’d get the chance to have him with us.

But we did.

He got to sit behind his Uncle @gabbs34 when he got his bear down, and then he was there to watch me take this bull.

I don’t think he’ll ever fully understand what it meant to me to look over and see him there. To finally share something I love so much with my little boy and watch him experience it all for the first time… that’s the part I’ll remember forever.

The kind of hunt you dream about, for reasons that have very little to do with the size of the bull.

Now it’s time to bring him back to Texas & start his training @the.moto.ranch

One year ago, we made a decision that changed all of our lives.

Last August, Kyle packed up his life and everything Carter would need into a trailer, while I packed up Carter’s room at my house. Together, we made the decision to give this little boy the opportunity to chase a really big dream in Oklahoma and begin training.

And when I say “we,” I truly mean WE.

This past year has taken an incredible amount of teamwork between Kyle, Alan, and I. It hasn’t always been easy, and it certainly hasn’t looked like a traditional family situation, but the three of us have continued to coparent through all of it.

Making sure Carter had what he needed. Getting him where he needs to be. Supporting him from different states, different homes, and sometimes from the other side of a FaceTime call. Rearranging schedules, making sacrifices, traveling countless miles, and doing whatever we can to give him the opportunity to chase something he loves.

What looked like “just dirt bikes” to some people was so much more to us.
This past year has been filled with long days, early mornings, countless miles on the road, new techniques, hard lessons, victories, setbacks, and moments that tested every single one of us. There have been blood, sweat, tears, frustration, sacrifice, and more determination than I ever knew an eight-year-old could have.

We’ve watched Carter grow into a kid with grit, discipline, resilience, and maturity beyond his years. The way he handles challenges, listens, learns, and refuses to quit amazes me every single day. There are adults who could learn a thing or two from this little boy.

Were there moments when we questioned everything? Absolutely.

Then came the accident that kept him off the bike for two months. Suddenly, the goal he had worked so hard toward—racing at Loretta Lynn’s—became a whole lot harder. Instead of continuing to build on months of progress, Carter had to heal, get back on the bike, rebuild his confidence, and start playing catch-up.

But if there’s one thing this journey has taught us, it’s that success isn’t always measured by whether you make it to the biggest race. by @preciouswiththecamera
