This Chevy 250 is basically ready to go. The customer took some covers and painted them in order to get all the tight spots before they were installed. He plans to paint the rest of the block after he picks it up. I am a big fan of this blue and think it will look pretty good once it's done.

Here's a before and after of these K24 parts that took a trip through the cleaning tank. Our cleaning tank knocks all the dirty oil as well as most of the burnt on oil right off of these parts. This makes it easier for us to work on and more importantly, shiny for the customers.

Lots of magneflux crack detection (magging) today. 28 rods and a hand full of main caps. This one is an FJ40 head and it passed with flying colors.
During our inspection process we magnetize certain parts and flood them in a uv solution. The particles in the fluid make their way into the cracks to make them plainly visible with a black light. It can be tough to hear you have a cracked part but it's better to know sooner than later. 🔦 by @precisionbalancing

As promised yesterday, the SBC got started in the hone. This is the last step before final cleaning for this block. The boring we did yesterday combined with our diamond honing stones will ensure bore concentricity of less than .0001. We hold this standard on every job, no matter the scope. It is just one more practice that we have perfected in order to stand out from the competition.

This SBC took a quick trip through the CNC today, got decked and cylinders bored oversize. These two steps allow us to correct the sloppy gm machining, and saves us time in the hone. This particular block was out of a boat and had a lot of water jacket corrosion, so we had to take a bit more off the deck.

We blasted this Ford FE manifold today. If you ever feel bad about your weight, this manifold alone weighs 78 pounds. This manifold turned out great despite the sweat required to clean it up.

Occasionally we also make things. We needed a specific tool today so I spun up the lathe(pun intended) to make the start of this tool. After essentially making a tube, I went over to the mill and proceeded to drill and tap the 6 holes. Finally I honed the ID to 1.2493. I know that's a random number, but it's what we needed, don't ask. All of this was done manually, using our south bend lathe and Bridgeport mill. We bought both of these machines new a very long time ago, but through meticulous maintenance and cleaning we are still able to make parts like this. (Not that it's overly complex, but it's shiny.)

The SV10 is putting in some work today rough honing this big block Chevy. We like to hone blocks that are brought to us before we order pistons. This ensures the bore will clean up for the piston size we order. It is never fun getting .020s and having to go .030 over.

We are getting further along on the 250. We had to order a few more parts so we are in limbo for a couple days. This thing just keeps getting taller, heavier, and even a bit longer. We still have covers to put on it, and those are gonna add some size. Regardless, it's looking really good, especially with everything blasted. Hopefully it gets a sweet coat of paint once it leaves the shop.

It is a slow day, so here is an MGB head we did earlier in the month with some heavily abused seats. Wear like this is extremely common on those engines, and we are used to correcting it. We usually get several of these a year, so if you have one that's huffing and puffing, reach out to us.

We resurfaced this Honda acty flywheel last week. All of the kei truck flywheels are comically small, you could almost grab them in your palm. We are always careful to match the step heights on flywheels like this to ensure the customer can get proper clutch engagement.
