These days, when I’m not shooting, I’m key gripping - probably with handsome Texan gaffer @cameronsonsini. When director @ethan.newmyer and DP @seanniebryan approached us with a rigging challenge for @pacificobeer we only had one thought: this is gonna make a great instagram post.

The creative pitch was a revolving 180 degree shot around a Pacifico bottle that needed to be perfectly matched across three different locations and buttery smooth. Weight wasn’t much of an issue because our camera was a built out iphone, however I knew almost instantly I wanted to use @buildmodulusx truss. Although beefy for a comically small camera, it would be rigid and stable enough for precise replication of distance and speed to recreate the same shot in three different locations.

𝗘𝗫𝗢 𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗔 𝗖𝗔𝗥 + 𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗦 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗖𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗠 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 for @steve.lacy “doom” video, the shot needed the camera to live directly above Steve safely. So we built it. A custom truss rig with the Genesis Head mounted overhead, holding the camera locked in exactly where it needed to be.

This is the stuff we love. Getting in with a great team, figuring out how to make the impossible possible, and pulling it off safely. Big thanks to everyone on this one for having us on the job and trusting us to make it happen.

Some BTS from a fun shoot with @bradpowers.kg and @asdfwhat

We decided to build this 8x8 Softbox out of ModulusX MX66 using our custom pettibone carriage plates to allow for quick attachment and removal of the entire rig as the pettibone was also needed for SFX and lifting a @servicevision_scorpio 45ft crane over a wall.

We utilized our custom Batten Clamps to hang rails for the Skypanels while adding extra height to get the fixtures as high above the diffusion as possible while keeping the box depth at 4ft. We also used our custom Softbox Corner Clamps to mount a preassembled 8x8x4 box that could be fully skinned and skirted ahead of time to allow grips and electrics to work simultaneously without getting in each other’s way. This allowed us to attach the truss frame to the pettibone and mount the softbox to the truss and have the whole rig flying in less than 15 minutes. This also speeds up wrap because the box can be dropped from the rig and broken down without delaying electrics from pulling their lights and cable.

Transporting @buildmodulusx in style with our custom truss dollies manufactured in-house. Using high capacity 8” casters for ease of maneuvering on set and UHMW plastic strips to keep the truss and cart looking fresh. The large casters also help when approaching ramps or lift gates with 10ft truss loaded.

Fully compatible our stock of @buildmodulusx and camera mounting accessories, also compatible with @modtruss and any other rigging equipment that can use the 3/8” thru holes on a 4x4” spacing. We’re excited to announce that we currently have the only truss rotator design that features a 2” bore to allow rigging and cables to pass through the center of the bearing. This is very important to us because it allows for lighting and camera rigs to rotate without the worry of cables tangling or snagging. Not only that but it allows you to pass speedrail or 5/8” rods through to rig a fixed object that a camera can revolve around.

New satellite rig for a @coach commercial with @lilnasx & @imma.gram

This satellite rig was built to reach a maximum height of 20ft and a move diameter of 30ft while supporting a full Alexa 35 package. The combination of modular truss, custom splice plates, and almost 500lbs of counterweight produced a stable rig while also able to move at a fast pace to achieve the desired shot.

New commercial for @branchfurniture is finally out. We had a lot of fun with this one from concept to execution, including tons of design, fabrication, and testing. Key grip @chris.van.lieshout was approached with the challenge of designing a rig to achieve the desired transition as cleanly as possible while also using the real product chairs and minimal visible rigging that would need to be removed in post. This was done by 3D scanning the chairs that needed to be modified, removing the lower portion, and fabricating a custom mount to rig the chair and provide anchor points for stunt coordinator @wadecordts . Special thanks to @brianlipko & @sturdy.co for trusting us with their vision and allowing us to pull it off.
