POSTS STORIES REELS

It’s been such a busy month so far. I haven’t had the time to work on any personal projects. So sharing one of my recent client works today.
I absolutely loved working on this video. Right from creating a dark bar kinda setup to all the drama in the clips, it was a lot of fun working on this! I had minimal props to work on this. So had to rely on the lighting and colors to tell the story. What do you think?

Haven’t been making a lot of matcha these days. But when I do, I make it count!!!
It’s been a long time since I shot personal videos and I absolutely had fun on this one.
If you want to learn how to shoot such videos - watch this space — I’ve got something in the works!

Felt like my feed needed a pop of blue. I tend to lean towards warmer colors usually, when I’m editing or when I’m choosing my props. Thought I’d try to break that pattern. This bottle of @absolutvodka was just perfect to shoot and drink 🙂
Which one’s your favorite?

I had shot this cherry tomato burrata pasta for a client and while I followed the brief for that shoot, I felt like the pasta would look really nice on some different coloured backdrops. So I made the recipe again, restyled it — bonus, a bit of styling practice — and this is the result.

I specifically wanted to use some backdrops that I have been ignoring for a while now. The green one has always been a bit tricky for me. It used to be hard to make the food stand out whenever I used it, but this time I thought it went quite well. Is this because I’ve grown as a photographer? I’d like to think so.

And this blue checks backdrop — this is its first time being used and I am obsessed. I realised I don’t reach for blues very often. I usually gravitate towards warmer colours, so this was a very conscious effort on my part. Really glad I did it.
I just shot a whole other series of images today with this blue one and I can’t wait to share it! by @preethi.venkatram

There’s a reason we always put the kettle on when someone walks through the door. It doesn’t matter where you are or who’s visiting, chai just shows up. It’s the first thing you offer.
It’s not really about the chai though, is it? It’s about saying- you are welcome here. Let’s chat!
A simple cup of chai can make someone feel like they belong somewhere.

I think it started with I was in my 4th or 5th grade. My mom used to send me to a local store — it was called “Onnu Rendu Chetti kadai ” or atleast that’s what we called it. I’m trying to remember if it had an actual name and I’m drawing a blank. But it was just a small shop, not very different from this one — to pick up a dal or a spice she’d run out of. And every time she did, I felt like the most important person in the world.

I’d grab the money from her, and off I’d go. I knew the way, I’d been there so many times. But I’d still spend the whole walk quietly worrying — what if I take a wrong turn, what if I forget what she asked for. And then I’d get there, get the thing, and walk back home feeling very pleased with myself.

Sometimes my sister would come with me. Sometimes it was just me. Either way, it was always a bit of an adventure.

Funny how a shop halfway across the world can bring all of that back in an instant.

During my last trip to Pondicherry, I got up early camera in hand with no real plan. After getting lost and going around in circles a couple of times, I saw these group of men, tucked under the tree deep in conversation like the rest of the world did not exist. It was still early in the morning so there was nothing much happening yet. I loved how the light was hitting them. It made me stop and capture the moment.
That’s what connection looks like to me. Just people who show up for each other, same spot, same time, probably every single day.

It was around 6.30 AM in the morning. I was out with Ron @ishealthyphoto camera in hand, hoping to check out the local markets before the crowds came in. And that’s when I saw her, walking out of her house with a basket full of offerings, the incense sticks lit, framing her face.
It reminded me so much of home- the mornings, incense, MS Subslakshmi in the background, lamps being lit before anything else happens in the day.

Different place, different culture but similar quiet ritual!
That’s what this photo is about for me- not just a beginning of a day but a reminder that some things are universally human.

This is my mother-in-law making her filter coffee — the way she’s always made it. I just set up my lights to feel as natural as possible, hit record, and stayed out of the way.
That’s the thing about storytelling in food and beverage video. The best moments aren’t the ones you plan to death. They’re the ones you create the right conditions for and then let happen. The warmth, the rhythm, the little details — that’s what makes someone watch till the end.
This is the kind of content I love making for brands. If you want videos that feel like a moment rather than an ad, let’s talk.

I’ve played with simple stop motions before while shooting — a few frames, pour shots, nothing too serious. But I always wanted to do a full, intentional one. This is my first real attempt at it, and honestly? I’m kind of obsessed with the process now. It was too much work but the satisfaction looking at the end result makes it all worth it!

@meghal_07 and I had a lot of fun bringing this to life. There were multiple failed attempts and we made all the rookie mistakes. ( I am planning to do a separate post on what not to do :D ) Joanie’s @thebiteshot Stop Motion Lab gave me the foundation to figure out how to approach this— and Dragonframe is already on my radar for my future attempts. We struggled quite a bit without dragonframe now.

There’s so much more I want to try with this. This is just the beginning. But how do you guys like it?

BTS coming soon — follow along if you want to see how the magic happened. 🎬
