I heard a chef on TV saying "everybody should have a good set of pots." Now I understand why my fry fish, boiled egg, omlettes and stir fry fish turned out this way.

Somebody needs to gift me 'a good set of pots' for Christmas!

On July 16, I celebrated my 77th birthday!

At the time, I had no stomach for celebration as I reeled from the passing of a dear JP colleague the day before and the loss of a very dear friend of donkey years a week later. It was a tough July through August, only partially brightened by the Emancipendence events. I went to every event in an effort to lift my sagging spirits.

I am now in a better place mentally and emotionally, so here am I with the long overdue birthday post.

This year, I choose to celebrate Jamaica, this beautiful land that has cradled and nurtured my dreams and aspirations. I celebrate the memories of my parents, Maude & John Reid, whose parental guidance put me on a firm pathway to become a productive citizen of the country.

My life continues to be enriched through the beautiful relationships I share with family and friends.

I continue to derive much pleasure in giving service through the various organizations with which I am associated.

I continue to find joy in the exciting places and events in Jamaica that allow me to live a colourful and active life even at this age.

And I continue to thank God for His grace and favour that have sustained me.

So this year, as I choose to celebrate Jamaica land we love through this photoshoot, I say a big thanks to my dear Cousin Maureen and Barbara Murphy and others at the Victoria Crafts Market for the outfits and accessories, hair stylist @certified_tanny, makeup artist at Fontana Barbican and, of course, my fantastic photography team @bryanstudioltd who spare nothing in accommodating my wishes year after year. Thanks also to @drhill007, CEO of the KSAMC for the kind facilitation at the location of the photoshoot.

I am now one month into Chapter 78 of my life story. I pray that my story will inspire others for many years to come to live life to the fullest.

2026 JCDC Visual Arts Competition Award

In January 2025, I started painting classes with a private tutor, Mrs. Hope Wheeler. Honestly, I didn't know how it would turn out. I just wanted to challenge myself at something I had failed miserably at as a 13 year-old schoolgirl.

I produced my first piece 'Breakfast' in May 2025 and entered it in the 2025 JCDC Visual Arts Competition. It advanced to the 3rd Round of adjudication but did not win a medal.

This year I got more audacious and entered two pieces. Today, I am incredibly proud to receive a bronze medal at the 2026 JCDC Visual Arts Competition Awards Ceremony for my painting, 'The Purple Headed Mountain'!

I am also delighted to announce that this painting will be included in the upcoming public exhibition of medal winning entries. How's that for a 78-year-old newbie!

A huge thanks to my teacher, Mrs. Wheeler, for her guidance and encouragement over the past year and a half. This moment is proof that it is never, ever too late to learn, to blossom and to bloom.

Post-Cabinet Press Briefing- Sept. 23, 2026

Thanks to Senator Dr. the Hon Dana Morris Dixon for inviting representatives of @ccrpjamaica to today's briefing in recognition of Senior Citizen's Month. It was an enlightening experience.

Minister of Labour and Social Security, the Hon Pearnel Charles Jr. outlined initiatives being undertaken to improve the welfare of seniors. Minister Charles definitely read the memo showing that the 65+ crowd is an increasingly important demographic in Jamaica. He understands the mission and we can see that he loves us.

Now if only the wheels of government bureaucracy could turn much faster so that initiatives can be implemented, e.g. enacting an Elderly Care and Protection Act similar to the Child Care and Protection Act.

The month has been going great so far and we are not done celebrating. Cheers to Jamaica's seniors! 🥂🍾
