First big lift for our 450t mobile crane💥

As part of the launching gantry works at the West Gate Project, Premier was engaged to lift and install 52t steel beams that would form a critical structural element for the elevated roadway on Footscray Road.

The LTM 1450 - 8.1 was set up on 104 c/w with 47.8m main boom at an 18 metre radius.

The crane gets the attention, but what’s underneath it matters just as much - Good ground conditions, and the right bog mats, all help keep the crane stable throughout the lift.

The 450t mobile cranes worked in tandem to lift and position bridge girders safely into place.

A 10t bridge going into place at the New Melton Hospital - With a large structure like this, the lift is only one part of the job.

Communication, the rigging, load control, and positioning all need to work together to get the bridge safely between the structures and into its final position.

How much planning goes into a lift like this?

Working in the heart of the CBD meant tight access, live traffic, neighbouring buildings and an existing tower crane all had to be factored into the lift - There wasn't room for second chances.

By selecting the right crane configuration, carefully sequencing the lift and coordinating with #TeamLifting ever present, the job was completed safely and efficiently. by @premiercranes

Fog doesn't stop a lift - It changes how you approach it.

For this night shift, our 100t Liebherr LTM 1120-4.1 was configured with a 45.2m main boom to install a 2.4t craneable access platform - While the lift remained well within the crane's capacity, the reduced visibility meant greater emphasis on communication, lighting, exclusion zones and confirming clear sightlines between the operator and dogman before every movement.

Weather doesn't always delay the job, but it should always influence the plan. by @premiercranes
