it’s all information.

someone recently pointed out that a recurring theme in the things I share is that I try. and that observation meant a great deal to me.

I used to have a very all-or-nothing approach to things. the pressure to get everything right would send my nervous system into a tailspin, and more often than not, that inner panic would leave me completely paralyzed.

something shifted for me when I came across the idea that failure is simply data. information.

I’m living proof that there’s grace in redirection. what feels like failure is often simply evidence of exploration.

I love that I get to try again. and again. and again.

a little glimpse into how I remind myself of that before sitting down to yap my way through another episode of don’t forget to press record. less chasing elusive perfection, more giving myself permission to explore. by @preshusguide

it’s about creating before everything makes perfect sense, and trusting that the meaning will meet me there.

before I ever picked up a camera, I was expressive in my words, the way I dressed, the way I noticed things, and somewhere between life happening and some really significant losses, I lost access to a lot of those parts of myself. I didn’t realize at first but creating was helping me find my way back to them. mindfulness has taught me to pay attention to what I notice. so even when all I have capacity to do is scroll, I bookmark whatever catches my attention, and I’ve started thinking of all of it as field research. all of these references are helping me understand the visual language I’ve been developing intuitively. and something my therapist has helped me frame is that when I see something in someone else that moves me, or even brings up envy, it can be a reflection of something in me too. there is no separation, and that same creative potential can live in me even when my circumstances feel limited. life can make you feel so diminished you start to believe you’ve lost yourself, but what feels lost can still be there waiting to be noticed again. all of these things I’ve accumulated feel like clues to reconnection and discovery of myself. you are limitless by @preshusguide

Shooting with intuition is about being present.

Before I ever press record, I try to feel the room. I join the energy first. Sometimes that means putting the camera down and simply being there.

After a while, you begin to anticipate moments before they happen. That’s intuition.

Soul Control is where I learned that.

I started shooting these musical/movement-based healing experiences right around the time I picked up a camera and learned so much more than how to document an event.

It was a space where people came to move, heal, sweat, laugh, and express themselves without judgment.

I quickly realized that if I wanted to capture that feeling, I had to be willing to step into it myself. That’s when the camera stopped feeling like something between me and the moment and became a way of moving with it.

Now I try to become one with the party. I want people to forget I’m filming, so what unfolds is honest. My hope is that when people watch these recaps, they don’t just see what happened. They feel what it was like to be there.

life parallels poetry

these videos are evidence of the path before arrival. I want the proof that I kept going before it was obvious. I want proof that I was here in the frustrating part. that I remained in the learning curve between what I can see and what I can fully execute. that is beautiful poetry to me. not just being there in the end, but in the reveal. in the gradual, steady, intentional, thoughtful reveal. and in having the courage to see it through. by @preshusguide
