I appreciate art and I also appreciate music. Tems had me at hello. As soon as she came on the scene I loved her voice, her songs and her message. When I make post the music I add is definitely music that has inspired me in some way. So when I add the music, I high key really want you to go check out the song and the artist cause I strongly believe I have a good ear for beautiful music. 💅. I had the most enjoyable time creating this painting. Tems playing in the background really set the mood I needed to zone out to make the next decision for this painting. Im developing a personal process that I am finding to be personal and almost sacred to my creative process. As Im finding myself more and more on this journey things are changing in my approach to this. And I am gaining more depth at heart into this. Idk Im still scratching the surface of my potential, but Im very intrigued to see where Im headed. Drawing from reference is fun, however there is something that hits different creating from your own mind and ultimately heart and spirit. It’s a Journey. I read somewhere to always challenge yourself by 10% of your skill so that you will continue to grow in the skill without burning yourself out. Well, I’m bored of only drawing from references. I really just do it for practice, but now I’m ready to get some stuff off my mind. So I’m practicing developing the skill of drawing from imagination. But something clicked, as many things start clicking when you’re on a journey, this is where you go from learning how to ‘DO,’ on to something far greater, learning how to think. Drawing like an artist vs thinking like an artist is two different vibes. So BACK STORY really quick, I’ve been taking notice of things I see throughout the day to think of what I want to draw. I’ve seen couples crossing the street. I’ve noticed even construction workers. But the other day I saw a lady turning down a street on her bike. I thought to myself, I love that little basket on the back of her bike. Then I said to self, I want to draw that. So when I sat down to practice drawing from things I’ve saw that held my attention I tried to draw the bike just from memory and realized, yeah, I need to do a bike study. Nothing to complicated, just stare at it. Then I thought, why stare and not learn its parts and what is required for it to be a bike. So I did and then went back to drawing, but not from memory, but rather an understanding of what parts make up a traditional bike. All that to say this, if you’re learning how to draw, don’t just think of the subject as it is, but think of what makes up that subject and why. My next realization that I’ll practice later is…. What story am I wanting to tell through art. This journey is fun and has many aha! Moments. Anyway, that is my Ted Talk. #art #draw #artinspiration by @prettybrownaura_
