@sknndhead_film on film. no I will never shut up about this film. when I was seven years old I sat in sat in front of the tv and thought what I saw on the screen was reality.

so yes — magic was real. love, friendships, real community it was real. at nine I started to dance in front of the tv, I needed people to see me — my cousins and I performed for our family and entire series of scenes, every december.

and then I was 10 and I would act out scenes and conjur up story lines in my bedroom. perform them in the mirror.

12 the choir master, who always smelt burnt of cigarettes and coffee and would probably barf a rainbow, took me into the cool autumn night for a walk. I was anxious about my first performance he told me to relax, that I could be great and that it would start Monday evening at 18:00 for my first rehearsal in the chamber choir.

16-17 I couldn’t stay off the stage. and then my mother revealed the truth: I could make life. I didn’t have to wait to see real life on the television when I could do it myself.

21 I made a film. sknndhead. It is my first born and I will always love it. and still I could giggle at our debut attempts at a film. because my vision has improved. if I could redo it again now with what I know — I wouldn’t.

something happened on that set. something like the bruises on our hearts finally turning yellow, waiting to fade into crimson again.

In december while @__marcokie__ (one of my best friends ever I love you) and I were scrambling and begging god for a black woman to portray my beloved lead character “Lee”. I was also scrambling to save my life. I didn’t tell anyone but I didn’t think I’d be alive to see sknndhead through. see any of my future projects come to life. but fuck. here I am. sknndhead saved my life.

and I could believe there was a god, who carefully threaded it all together.

for all the thin blue threads of his sins against me woven into the cloth of my life. I could not.
