Joe Goldberg and Love Quinn were perhaps the most disturbing relationship in You because, for once, Joe met someone who understood exactly what he was capable of. Joe believed Love was innocent, kind and different from the women he had obsessed over before, but the truth slowly revealed that Love was hiding her own history of violence, obsession and manipulation. Instead of being opposites, Joe and Love became mirrors of each other. They both wanted love, security and a perfect family, but neither of them knew how to love without controlling, manipulating or destroying the person standing in their way. Their relationship becomes a psychological battle between two people who desperately want to believe they are good while constantly proving otherwise. Love sees Joe's darkness and initially accepts it because she believes they can build a life together. Joe, however, becomes terrified when he realizes that Love is not the victim he imagined her to be. Their marriage becomes a perfect example of toxic love, obsession, jealousy and manipulation, showing how two people can genuinely care about each other while simultaneously becoming each other's greatest threat. Joe and Love didn't fail because they were too different. They failed because they were far too similar.
