Wrapping up 2025 with nothing but gratitude 🙏🏾

To every athlete who walked through the doors, showed up early, stayed late, trusted the process and believed in my work, thank you. Whether you were with us for a full year, a season, an offseason, or just a short block, I don’t take that trust lightly.

From young athletes finding their feet, to school teams, to elite and professional players preparing for big stages, each of you played a part in what this year became.

Special love to my OGs who continue to come back, the ones grinding quietly behind the scenes, and those chasing bigger dreams than comfort. Your work ethic, resilience and buy-in are the reason Primal Performance keeps moving forward.

2025 was about growth, not just in numbers, but in confidence, habits, mindset and belief.

I’m proud of every one of you and I’m excited for what’s ahead.
Let’s keep building. Let’s keep raising the standard.

Most rugby players train hard… but not all training transfers to performance 💥

If you want to build a stronger, faster & more explosive rugby players, focus on qualities that actually change games 👇🏽

1️⃣ Lift Heavy
Max strength builds force production, collision dominance & power potential.

Key lifts:
• Trap Bar Deadlift
• Squat Variations
• Bench Press
• Weighted Chins

2–3x per week. Pair heavy lifts with explosive movements for better transfer.

2️⃣ Move With Intent
Power work teaches athletes to apply force FAST.

Key movements:
• Trap Bar Jumps
• Med Ball Throws
• Push Press
• Plyometrics

2–4x per week. Quality > quantity. Move explosively.

3️⃣ Sprint
Speed changes games.

Train acceleration, max velocity & COD work consistently. Sprint fresh, recover fully & prioritise quality.

2–3x per week.

Proud of this kid 💯 @t.a.w.h

Watching how hard he’s worked behind the scenes, the early mornings, the grind, the discipline… it makes moments like this very special. The rewards keep showing up because he keeps showing up. Seeing the Power in those punches and the explosiveness in his footwork.

This is just the start for him. 🥊🔥

Shoutout to coach Rob for all the amazing work he does with these kids 💪🏾 by @primalcoachpaz

What Are Explosive Habits? 🤔

There’s NO one word answer for this, but if I were to sum up what I mean it’ll be “Creating a 2nd Nature with Your Contact skills” whether it be tackling, to carrying to jackling whatever it may be, You’re Prepared ✅

So what does this look like?

1️⃣ Looking at the second clip you see in the video above. We are working on making that step into contact as aggressive as possible, so that naturally the shoulder follows. The reason why coaches teach this is because it helps generate force into the initial contact. In a game you might not do this every tackle, but if you’ve trained this tirelessly, it will become second nature to you. As Big impact and collisions are inevitable this can help to get rid of that fear factor for those shy of tackling

Cues you’ll hear would be “Split the Midline”, “Knee to Nuts”, “Step-in”

2️⃣ BACK. IN. GAME (B.I.G) - When you’re on the ground you’re out of the game and letting your team down. That’s the mindset you have to have 👍🏾 if you can master burpees you’ll be pretty dangerous around that breakdown in R-Union, and if you can do it explosively and continuously, That creates a scary weapon to play against. We want our athletes to be pros in this area, where they have been trained to pop straight back up to their feet in a strong position to either jackle, counter ruck or make another tackle. You could call this the Bread and Butter for Backrowers in Rugby Union.

3️⃣ Bear Strength - Stabilising that Bear position makes it hard for opposition to move you. PERIOD!!! Train it so the Body is used to absorbing contact in the Jackle

During this OFF-SEASON period we’re aiming to strengthen our players All-round. Our Big focus is Developing 2nd Nature habits that will help excel our athletes in their games. Whether that be warmup/activation to being able to pass short and long off both hands or being a monster in the collisions. Leaving no stones unturned, developing confidence within themselves, we believe the only way to do this is just DOING IT, over and over again
