We’re excited to announce our newest single origin,

Jairo Arcila Castillo, Colombia.

This single origin is perfect for filter coffee or pour over.

Developed by Colombia’s FNC and released in 2005, Castillo was created to improve productivity and protect coffee crops against coffee leaf rust.

A cross between the disease-resistant Timor Hybrid and the compact, high-quality Caturra, Castillo offers strong rust resistance, higher yields and adaptability across a range of growing conditions.

In the cup, it is known for a balanced profile with notes of citrus, red fruits and caramel, complemented by bright acidity and a smooth, medium body.

Jairo Arcila is a third-generation coffee grower from Quindío, Colombia. After more than 40 years as a Mill Manager for one of Colombia’s largest coffee exporters, he retired in 2019.

The Prima Café was buzzing with activity as our Hōhepa Barista Training students took over for a special Saturday opening, marking the end of their 10-week journey.

After weeks of developing their barista skills, the team put everything they had learned into practice, confidently serving coffees, preparing delicious scones, and welcoming friends and whānau through the café doors. It was a fantastic opportunity to experience the pace of a real café while celebrating just how far they have come.

Watching the students work together with growing confidence, enthusiasm, and professionalism was a highlight of the day. Their hard work and commitment throughout the programme were on full display, making the event a wonderful success.

A heartfelt thank you to the Hōhepa team and Natalie, for their guidance, encouragement, and the effort they put into creating such a rewarding learning experience. It was a fitting celebration of everything the students have achieved. by @primaroastery

Some sad news to share

AgainAgain, the reusable cup scheme we’ve run here at Prima since 2018, has made the hard call to discontinue their deposit/return system.

It was the very first thing they built, and honestly the most impactful, but the cost of running it never quite matched the impact at scale. Massive respect to their team for backing this kaupapa for so many years, and for building something we were genuinely proud to be part of.

We’re now on the hunt for a new reusable cup solution so we can keep this going for our customers...nothing locked in yet, but watch this space. In the meantime, bring your own reusable and you’ll get a 20c discount.

Thanks AgainAgain, for everything.
