In Honor of Jiam Desjardins (Doc)

You are warmly invited to gather at BERT’s to celebrate the life and birthday of a remarkable man whose work and passion were devoted to preserving and honoring Black history and culture. Mr.Desjardins dedicated much of his life to reminding others of their roots, with a special focus on Paradise Valley in Detroit, Michigan.

Original artwork and illustrations by Mr. Desjardins will be displayed in BERT’s Motown Room for this occasion.

Please note: Photography and video recording of Mr. Desjardins’ work are not permitted unless expressly approved by Milo Desjardins. Guests found photographing or filming without permission will be asked to leave.

We come together to remember, reflect, and celebrate his enduring legacy.

With great sadness I am sharing with you news of the passing of a great man my father, Dr. Jiam Desjardins, he passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Harper Hospital.
The loss of Jiam, is a loss for our city of Detroit and the world, Jiam was a complex human being and contributed much to our world.

Jiam was a very creative artist, a historian, a movie actor, radio and television performer. He was a multi-medium producer, director and writer.
As a creative spirit Jiam dealt in music, fine arts, graphic designing, film and video production. He hosted and produced an historic television show on WGPR-TV62 called “Terror Theatre.”
Jiam’s media credits includes the 1960’s-70’s award winning ‘Pepsi Cola’s Black History’ series distributed nationwide to radio stations and public schools.

As a historian, Jiam collected and donated historical materials and artifacts to many libraries and organizations including the Reuther Library at WSU, the Burton Collection at Detroit’s Main Library, and DSO at Orchestra Hall.
Jiam was a businessman and entrepreneur as well, manufacturing and distributing cosmetic products, collectibles and marketing insights, intelligence, tools and information.
Dr. Desjardins was a first-person historian regarding Detroit’s Black History specifically related to “Black Bottom,” “Paradise Valley,” Detroit’s historic “Hastings Street” and African American history and culture in Detroit for 1920’s through the 1960’s.

My father was a true renaissance man and a marvelous conversationalist. At 97 years old he was still working EVERYDAY. His mind was sharp and clear, he was still using his knowledge, crafts and skills to enlighten our world….. A philanthropist to DETROIT TIL THE END….
