@hopstersau and @brilliantemperor are bringing the Halloween goods to “Metal Markets” this Saturday, October 31, with an afternoon of metal, merch and cold beers followed by a night of live music steeped in death, doom and blackened menace. Dig through the record crates, hunt down some underground treasures, grab a brew and soak up the atmosphere before the lights go down and the amps fire up. With a special split 7” launch from @heathenspawn666 and @devoidaltar, plus local troublemakers @sudaka.band, this Halloween gathering has all the ingredients for a bloody good time. The Metal Markets kick off from 3–6 pm, bringing together record collectors, underground labels, merch dealers and music obsessives for an afternoon of vinyl, cassettes, shirts and other essential additions to the collection. There’ll be craft beer, great wines and plenty of time to rummage through the crates, catch up with familiar faces and unearth something nasty to take home. Free entry and all ages for the markets, with Hopsters’ usual welcoming atmosphere and dog-friendly hospitality. Get in early, support the underground and fuel up before the evening’s festivities begin. From 7 pm, the night belongs to Heathenspawn, Devoid Altar and Sudaka, celebrating the release of Memento, a split 7” from Sydney’s blackened melodic death metal merchants Heathenspawn and death-doom conjurors Devoid Altar. Paying tribute to fallen Swedish legends At the Gates and Entombed, the split features Heathenspawn tackling “World of Lies” and Devoid Altar reworking “Say It in Slugs”, bringing their own character to two classics while honouring the artists who helped shape them. Make this Halloween one for the underground, with Metal Markets bringing the records, merch and beers from 3–6 pm before Heathenspawn, @devoidaltar and Sudaka take over for a night of live metal and the Memento split 7” launch from 7 pm. by @primitive_moth

Beneath The Surface Issue 10 has officially entered print production! We won’t lie, we’re feeling excited and anxious after doing the read-proofing over the last few days. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our crew for putting their blood, sweat and soul into this print project. A big thank you to our Editorial Director, Alex, for coordinating; Cam, our Creative Director, for the countless hours spent bringing our visuals to life and coordinating with our feature artists; and all our writers, proofreaders and in-house photographers for their hard work in bringing this issue together. We’d also like to thank Aaron, our Publication Consultant, for his time and advice, and our print supplier for taking the time to educate us on the transition from digital to print. A big thank you to our advertisers for having faith in and believing in our publication, and to our supporters, Grindhead Records and Primitive Moth, for their assistance in the lead-up to this milestone. Fingers crossed we can get the print edition in two weeks! Now we just let our print supplier do the magic. Pre-orders are available now! https://headbangers-australia.square.site/ by @primitive_moth

Saturday- 17/10/26 1st show of the SCUM FU//OSLUGGARD Japanese 7 date tour starting in the Pit Bar, Tokyo. Killer lineup including @bloodprophecy666 who looked very Black Metal Medieval gothic and played an infectous melodic DM with a very Iron-Maiden esques feel. Big element of theatre to them as well, with their dress, stage presence, swords and potions. @kaltbruchingaciddeath were a huge highlight for me with their heavy Tokyo style Krust/Doom. Both OSluggard and Scum Fu nailed their sets as well. Its awesome to be back in japan, xatching bands with mates again. We are being looked after/wrangled/steered for the next 7 days by the mighty @rafaelkarasukiller by @primitive_moth

@scumfuband and @osluggard are teaming up for a two-piece sludge metal double header as the Sydney outfits head north this weekend for the start of their “Japan Tour 2026”!💥🍻🇯🇵⛓️ Scum Fu bring down-tuned guitars, raucous fuzz and hardcore punk aggression, firing off raw DIY noise with a black humour streak, while O’Sluggard deal in oversized riffs, stuttering drums and caveman grooves, grinding out thick slabs of doom with enough low end to rattle the fillings out of your head. Two bands, two pieces, a double dose of low-end saturation for the land of the rising sun. They’ll also have copies of their split “Japan Tour Tape ’26”, featuring cuts from both bands, available on the tour and via Primitive Moth Records. Get amongst it! 💪Sat, Oct 17 - Tokyo - Pit Bar 💪Sun, Oct 18 - Nagoya - Brazil Coffee 💪Mon, Oct 19 - Yokohama - El puente 💪Tue, Oct 20 - Kobe - Make Shift 💪Wed, Oct 21 - Kyoto - Socrates 💪Thu, Oct 22 - Osaka - Hokage 💪Fri, Oct 23 - Okayama - Pepperland Presented by @karasukillerjapan Scum Fu / O’Sluggard - “Japan Tour Tape ‘26” is out now on @primitive_moth #punk #fuzz #sludgemetal #scumfu #osluggard by @primitive_moth
