I knew this day was coming, but I don’t think anything could have prepared me for how much I would miss you aaliyah. ❤️

Since 2008, I’ve been taking care of you. From the time you were a newborn, you’ve been right there with me. Now I walk upstairs, look into your room, and it’s empty. Your bed and your things are still there… but you’re not, and that hits me every time.

I miss the little things the school drop offs, our talks, our arguments, the good days, the bad days, all of it.

I know I was a hard dad sometimes. I stayed on you, told you no when you wanted to hear yes, and even tried my hardest to keep you from having a boyfriend 😂. But everything I did was because I wanted to protect you and make sure nothing got in the way of your dream of going to college.

And now you did it. 🥹🎓 You’re living in your dorm, starting a whole new chapter, and I couldn’t be more proud of you.

But being proud doesn’t make me miss you any less.

Sometimes the selfish part of me wishes you were still upstairs in your room. I miss waking you up for school, getting on you about something, hearing you walking around the house, or just knowing my daughter was home with me.

For 18 years, having you here was part of my everyday life. Now I’m learning that letting my little girl grow up might be one of the hardest parts of being a dad.

I pushed you because I believed in you. I was hard on you because I knew what you were capable of. I raised you for this moment, even if part of me wishes I could keep you home forever.

Just know your dad misses you more than you probably realize. Home will always be home, your room will always be your room, and no matter how grown you get or how far you go, you’ll always be my little girl.
