Bio:
Prisma’ Anna Maria Andrade is a Dallas-born and Chicago-based textile artist whose work blurs the lines between painting, photo, and textile, creating colorful imagery one can see and touch. Her work deals with immigration as an act of trauma, examining her family’s journeys between Honduras, Spain, Texas and Chicago, stitching together the remnants of familial and cultural history which the descendants of immigrants are left with. She uses cultural craft traditions of embroidery and quilting, once reserved to the domestic sphere of her female ancestors, in conjunction with modern traditions of digital weaving and dyework to confront the gender roles of the Latin American family structure. Throughout her work, Andrade reimagines her familial archive, including works of art done by her family members, as a ritual act to honor her family members across the diaspora and craft herself into place. Andrade received her BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fiber and Material Studies in 2026. She is a recipient of the SAIC Presidential Scholarship (2022), SAIC Contemporary Practices Scholarship (2023), and won Surface Design Magazine’s Outstanding Student Award in 2025. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at the Dallas Museum of Art (Dallas, TX), Bridgeport Art Center (Chicago, IL), Woman Made Gallery (Chicago, IL), Evanston Art Center (Evanston, IL), and solo exhibitions at Art City (Chicago, IL) and SAIC Incubator Gallery.

We are so excited to welcome Niles Tatum, Gary LaPointe Jr and Prisma Andrade to the building as our Fall & Winter Artists in Residence!

From September 16th through the end of the year, these artists will have works in exhibition throughout the building, studio space to produce and explore their practice and a variety of opportunities to expand their creative resources and community. We have been building out more public workshops through the AIR program and can’t wait to share what’s next.

Congrats to these three and thank you to all who took the care to apply. Please look out for future events, open studios and open calls in the months to come! We appreciate all of you 🩵

'In Our Blood,' our special summer exhibition with PRISMA (@prismacolorhell) opens NEXT WEEK in the Sharp Lobby! Join us for the closing reception on Thursday, July 23 from 4:30-6:00p.m.

'In Our Blood' is a solo exhibition by the artist PRISMA, who recreates artworks by her family members of the past and present. The artist uses the act of recreation as a method to both learn from and honor her ancestors while also critiquing the gender dynamics in her family. Using woven structures, quilting techniques, and direct dye applications, PRISMA disrupts the borders of painting and textile to analyze the gender hierarchy of fine art and craft within her own familial context. With the artist's familial archive serving as a medium and reference, 'In Our Blood' is a journey of self-actualization that breaks the boundaries of craft and fine art, painting and textile, and male and female-all in pursuit of finding one's place among the archives. by @prismacolorhell
