Part 4: "Mommy and Me" Book Pairings by Latine Authors

10 more book pairings to foster culture, curiosity, and connection during storytime. I have been very mindful of the books on my son's bookshelves since before he was born. I started curating his library when I was about 4 months pregnant. I knew I wanted his shelves to be filled with books I wish I had been exposed to growing up.

I couldn’t make the entire Latinx Storytellers Con @lkbfstorytellers this year, pero I hopped the subway from Brooklyn to the @scholastic building last Friday for the networking event.

Talk about uplifting— a room & outdoor terrace filled with Latinx authors, illustrators & industry professionals rubbing elbows, sharing industry insight & supporting each other as we strive for our goals in an industry that too often discounts us… sí, it was an uplifting evening. 💫

Kicked off Latine Heritage Month with mi amiga-hermana @alexisdaria at the New York Latino Film Festival’s @nylatinofilmfestival Opening Event celebrating the film “Otra” and the talented team behind the movie that’s a musical, a time travel romance, a dance fest (dios mio, the dancing is increíble!)— a celebration of nuestra cultura and an all-around incredible film! 🤩

Shout out to director/actor Armani Ortiz @armaniortiz (such a brilliant concept, beautifully brought to life on screen!), the production crew, the choreographer (¡fenómeno!), the costume and set designers, and the entire ensemble of actors led by Ortiz, Rome Flynn @romeflynn , María Gabriela De Faría @thefaria , Flor Delis Alicea @itsflordelisp.r , Dania Ramirez @daniajramirez, and Aria Celeste Castillo @viva.aria!

✨ LHM Booksta Challenge — Day 16: Inspiración ✨
Books ❤️ Culture ❤️ Community

When I thought about the Latine authors and books that have inspired me, I realized there was absolutely NO WAY I could choose just one. 🥹📚

For me, this journey has become about so much more than the books. It’s about seeing our cultures, families, languages, neighborhoods, traditions, and stories represented on the page. It’s about reading stories that make me feel seen and discovering authors who continue to remind me why representation matters.

And then there’s the community. ❤️ These books have given me opportunities to meet so many incredible Latine authors, connect with fellow readers, attend events, discover new-to-me voices, and celebrate our stories together.

Looking through these pictures makes my heart so full because every one holds a memory. 🥹

Books brought us together. Culture connects us. Community keeps us here. ❤️📚✨
