Last two chances to train with Prison Yoga Project live in 2026!

Longmont, Colorado | October 23–25
Oakland, California | November 13–15

Together we will explore what trauma-informed facilitation looks like in practice. We’ll center agency, nervous system awareness, embodied mindfulness and accessible movement at the intersections of social justice advocacy.

ā€œIt is one thing to say, ā€˜I am trauma-informed,’ and another thing entirely to experience and practice what that truly looks like.ā€

Come learn, practice, and build community.

CONGRATULATIONS, COHORT 11! šŸŽ“

Today, we celebrate more than the completion of 200 hours of yoga teacher training. We celebrate the connections, the vulnerability, the conversations, and the commitment to learning, unlearning, and growing together.

To our Yoga, Social Justice, & Leadership graduates, THANK YOU for showing up with open hearts, asking difficult questions, challenging perspectives, and reminding us that yoga extends far beyond the mat.

The work of building more compassionate, inclusive, and healing-centered communities doesn’t end here. In so many ways, it’s just beginning.

We are so proud of you, Cohort 11! Here’s to the communities you’ll serve, the lives you’ll touch, and the change you’ll help create. šŸ’™

This work is not always easy, but you never have to do it alone. In this community, we build support systems for those wanting to change the system and those caught inside of it.

One thing that makes our trainings so special are the amazing people that come together in that space.
Inside you will be united with dedicated healing practitioners, social justice workers, and community that is aligned in one major mission: Healing belongs to everyone.

Prison Yoga Project would be honored to support you, wherever you are in your facilitation journey. If our training interests you please visit the link in our bio to learn more.

Two stops left for our live trauma-informed facilitation intensives:
šŸ”ļø Longmont, Colorado | Oct 23–25
šŸŒ‰ Oakland, California | Nov 13–15

Can’t join us in person? Our foundational training is always available online for those ready to begin this work. by @prisonyogaproject

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the resilience, wisdom, and living cultures of Indigenous peoples while acknowledging the lasting impacts of colonization.
The histories of displacement, forced assimilation, and dehumanization are deeply connected to the systems of inequality and incarceration we continue to confront.
In this reflection, PYP facilitator and Community Engagement Manager Lo Patt explores the legacy of colonization, our shared humanity, and the Indigenous principle of reciprocity.
We invite you to watch, reflect, and consider how we can practice collective liberation through the ways we care for one another.

Today’s trauma-informed yoga flow and sound bath savasana at Homeboy Industries. Participants stated the intention for flexibility, movement, relaxation, balance, restoration and peace. So proud of how they showed up for their own practice as well as for one another in community.

We have a new resource at Prison Yoga Project, and I’m so excited that it’s finally out. 🧘

Created by our Training Director, Jen Lindgren, Trauma-Informed Yoga: A Facilitator’s Guide to Sequencing, Cueing, and Adaptive Practice brings together years of experience teaching, adapting practices, and preparing facilitators to offer trauma-informed yoga in correctional and other trauma-impacted settings.

I’ve been going through the guide myself, and it’s already changing the way I teach. I’m thinking more intentionally about how I sequence, the language I use, how I offer choices, and how I adapt what I’ve planned based on who is actually in the room that day.

One of the things I love about this work is that we’re never done learning. Teaching in youth detention and correctional settings has taught me how important it is to stay curious, responsive, and willing to change course. This guide gives us so many practical tools for doing exactly that.

I’m really proud to be part of the PYP team and so grateful to Jen for creating a resource I know I’ll return to again and again.

Our new guide is available now at https://shop.prisonyoga.org by @prisonyogaproject
