Automating and systematizing your business are great ways to manage your growth but there is a problem.

It may feel overwhelming, especially during a time when you are growing, serving more clients and managing a growing team.

Here is how to start systematizing your business without overwhelming yourself.

Giving away my 6-step process.

If you are the founder of a growing company

And you want to grow your business

It is very likely you are serving more clients

Hiring more people to support you with your growth.

And while your marketing and sales 🔥

You are still stuck in a Growth Plateau, not being able to welcome more growth. 😓

And even though you are so good with marketing, sales and the service you provide

One area you struggle with is not being able to step away from working inside your business to focus on more growth.

That lack of time and freedom inside your business makes it impossible for you to get off what I call the Hustle Treadmill.

Which means you’re going to waste a lot of time on lower value work

And miss a lot of opportunities not using your time to grow more.

Creating leverage inside your business boils down to 3 things:

1 - having an optimized revenue generating process - your client delivery process.

2 - Having a self-managed team to run those systems and processes for you.

3 - cultivating the right company culture that empowers your team so you can step away from your business without managing people and projects.

Btw, for those of you who are new here, I created a guide that walks you through these 3 business pillars.

They will help you create long-term leverage and free you up for more growth.

Send me a DM if you want it and I’ll send it your way.

🚨 If your SOPs are boring

Here is how to fix them.

1. 🚫 Stop documenting what you do.

Document how to do it *better*. 🙌🏼

You don’t document for the sake of documenting.

You capture an improved version of your business processes.

2. Ask Real Interview Questions

If your team member just transcribes what a process owner tells them during a process interview, congratulations — your team mate is a glorified note taker that will soon be replaced by AI.

Documenting is more than writing step-by-step instructions telling people where to click.

It’s conveying why certain ways of doing things matters.

It’s knowing when to say more and when to say less.

3. Make SOPs Engaging

The biggest challenge business owners have with documentation is lack of adoption.

  Why?

Because nobody gets excited reading a 15-page boring document telling them where to click.

Your people are smart. And fun.

  So treat them that way.

Don’t tell them where to click. This is not McDonalds or IKEA.

Your business knowledge doesn’t have to be a snooze fest.

It’s okay to bring in the culture. The GIFs. The emojis.

Have some fun while learning. It’s a better way to learn anyway. by @process_nerd

I’ve seen bad advice on SOP creation and new hire onboarding.

But some of it is a real head scratcher.

If anyone tells you you don’t need to create SOPs before you hire people

Cover your ears and run fast. 🚩 🚩 🚩

And if they tell you to ask your new hire to create your SOPs during their onboarding

Following such advice is asking for disaster

And making your new hires hate your guts.

Don’t be that guy / gal. by @process_nerd

Does your Notion setup give you a cringe feeling?

Love the tool but you can’t figure out how to turn your messy team spaces into a beautiful garden?

No worries, I’ll help you re-organize your Notion so you fall back in love with it again.

Let’s start with something small and easy you can implement this week.

1. Create a simple Team space for each of your business functions
2. Keep company-wide information in your General team space
3. Give each sub-team their own home page
4. Keep your sidebar minimal with Favorites for most visited pages
5. Do not have too many top-level pages in the Home side bar
6. Use consistent icons, cover images, emojis to jazz it up a bit

That’s it for now.

This should take you no more than half an hour this week to implement.

Let me know if you have questions or get stuck along the way. by @process_nerd

Systematizing your growing business doesn't just free you up for more growth.

It creates more mental space for creativity and innovation.

It frees you up for more time outside of your business.

It challenges you to let go off control as a Founder.

It fosters more organization and self-discipline.

Use systematizing as a vehicle to create more time and talent leverage.

Give you the mental space to be more present for family and friends.

Free you up inside your business.

The ultimate form of leverage. by @process_nerd

More founders should let go off control.

Start delegating or outsourcing a few tasks at first.

Asking for support to free you up is not as scary as you think.

- Worst case is making a few bad hires and learning how to hire better
- Best case is you free up more time for more growth or for your family

Feels scarier never to try. by @process_nerd

Focusing on managing time is a silly goal.

Your focus should be creating more time leverage.

In a growing business that’s gradually removing yourself from day-to-day work.

The easiest way to do that is create systems, automate, and delegate.

Then find and support the right folks to run those systems for you.

All of those things compound towards a more leveraged business that can run even without you. by @process_nerd

What would you do with 8 extra hours per month?

Even if you start with just 30 extra minutes.

Let’s do some simple math:

- Shave 30 min off your onboarding process
- Let’s say you onboard 4 clients / week - this is a saving of 2 hrs / week (+ happier clients!)
- This adds up to about 8 hrs / month

Mind you, 8 hours may not sound like a lot.

But it's more than you had before.

Only from improving 1 process.

Imagine the time you get back from additional process improvements.

Instead of striving to be more productive doing the wrong things.

Your focus should be removing yourself from meaningless work.

It might sound scary at first because we desire to control things.

But stepping away from daily management inside your business is liberating long-term. by @process_nerd
