Mandy Zhang Art is pleased to present 𝘿𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙮’𝙨 𝘾𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙘, a new immersive installation and performance by Annie Trevorah @annietrevorahsculptor , guest curated by Joséphine May Bailey @procrastinarting_ and staged off-site at the Coningsby Gallery @coningsbygallery in London’s West End. Trevorah transforms the gallery into a meticulously realised aesthetics clinic for animals. The familiar language and rituals of the contemporary beauty industry are reimagined through six sculpted animal patients, each with their own signature procedure, consultant’s notes and recovery plan. Exhibition Announcement | FRESCOES Mulryan Gallery is pleased to present FRESCOES, a new exhibition co curated with @procrastinarting_ , bringing together the work of @lydiahamblet, @pippa.elkadhi.brown and @vincenzomuratoreartist . Taking its title from the ancient technique of fresco, in which pigment is worked into wet plaster and becomes inseparable from the surface as it dries, FRESCOES considers what happens to an image, or to a material, once it has been exposed to change. Across painting and sculpture, the three artists explore material as something shaped not only by the artist, but by the conditions it encounters. Weather, light, pressure, fracture and repair become active forces, leaving their traces within the finished work rather than being erased. Unfolding across the gallery’s light filled atrium and immersive dark room, the exhibition brings together distinct practices through a shared interest in transformation, memory and the histories held within material. Join us for the Private View during Frieze Week. Mandy Zhang Art is pleased to present 𝚂𝚊𝚕𝚝 𝙻𝚊𝚗𝚍, the first solo exhibition with the gallery by Michael Gao @michael_cy_gao , curated by Joséphine May Bailey @procrastinarting_ . Gao (b. 2002, Beijing) lives and works in London and graduated from the Royal College of Art last year. These twelve paintings are his first full body of work since joining the gallery, and his most personal to date. Solitude is one of the few conditions we both fear and romanticise. 𝚂𝚊𝚕𝚝 𝙻𝚊𝚗𝚍 sits inside that contradiction, constructing a world that is beautiful, exact and almost entirely emptied of people, leaving open how much of its emptiness is refuge and how much is avoidance. Alongside the paintings, Gao wrote a short story following a boy who leaves a travelling carnival to keep a lighthouse, and who comes to describe the place as his “citadel of solitude”. The paintings do not illustrate the text; they inhabit its atmosphere, borrowing its coastline, its light, its salt and its silence. The story will be printed in full in a publication accompanying the exhibition, alongside an essay by curator Joséphine May Bailey. 𝚂𝚊𝚕𝚝 𝙻𝚊𝚗𝚍 Michael Gao

‘The Dwelling’, an installation by Annie Trevorah at @nobulondonportman ‘The Dwelling’ takes the Earth as a shared home. Across the White Box, foyer and lounge, Trevorah fills the hotel with speculative beings and imagined ecologies, made in sculpture, textile and print. Her world is one of transformation, where human, animal and landscape flow into one another. Beyond the major installation in the White Box, the lobby holds three further bodies of work. ‘Bird Girl’ kneels at the window, facing the street. Silver legs, a bloom of red, and above it a dove with its wings open On the marble by the glass, three photographic works set in resin. Root, moss and forest floor, layered through architecture and light. Behind them, the plane trees of Portman Square keep growing. Further in, the Human Chrysalis series glows in amber niches. Each figure caught mid emergence. Salt Land. Michael Gao’s first solo exhibition with Mandy Zhang Art, curated by Joséphine May Bailey. Twelve paintings, a lighthouse at the edge of an empty sea, and a solitary dog that reappears throughout. No human figures, but a world that feels quietly inhabited. Each painting is part of a larger story, written by Michael as he worked on the exhibition, about a boy who leaves a travelling carnival to keep a lighthouse he comes to call his citadel of solitude. Since July, Ansaldo has worked closely with Michael and Mandy Zhang Art to bring the exhibition together. From fortnightly studio visits and selecting the works to developing the curatorial framework, installing the show and writing the exhibition texts, the process has unfolded over several months. Alongside the exhibition, Ansaldo has worked with Michael on a publication featuring his story in full, with an essay by Joséphine. It comes in two editions, including ten hand-bound copies with covers painted by Michael himself. We marked the opening with an intimate dinner at the gallery the night before, followed by a reading and conversation with Michael on the evening itself. It has been a real pleasure to work with Michael on this project and to see it develop from the studio into an exhibition and publication. This is how Ansaldo likes to work with artists: closely, over time, and across the many parts of a project that allow an artist’s ideas to find their fullest expression. The Dwelling is open. Annie Trevorah has made Nobu Hotel London Portman Square a habitat of its own. In the gallery, speculative beings settle among imagined ecologies, in sculpture, silk and print. At its heart stands ‘Becoming’, a hand sculpted figure that is neither Male nor female, human or animal. It is many bodies held in one form. Around it, the Human Chrysalis series hangs in mirrored chrome above sculptural flora. Look closely and you find yourself in the work. It does not imagine humans turning into animals. It reminds us we never stopped being them. Next, Trevorah’s creatures wander out into the lobby. Then, afternoon tea. - The Dwelling Annie Trevorah @annietrevorahsculptor Presented by Mandy Zhang Art @mandyzhangart Curated by Joséphine May Bailey / ansaldo Nobu Hotel London Portman Square 9 to 30 October 2026 - Part of the programme. Over the last two months, I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with @michael_cy_gao through my consultancy, @ansaldo_art, in advance of his solo exhibition “Salt Land”, which opens at 6pm this Thursday at @mandyzhangart. Michael is a very special artist. Articulate, well-read, ambitious, and unique. During my first studio visit with Michael, he told me he was writing a story that he felt fed into the body of work he was making. I started to make notes, ready for the catalogue essay I was planning to write. I wrote down some of his references: painters Piero della Francesca, Mary Stevenson, Alex Colville, then literary references Cormac McCarthy, Fitzgerald, Woolf. Then further: medical illustrations from a DK Encyclopaedia found in his uncle’s home when he was a child. Quite bizarre, but equally fascinating. I listened, closely, as Michael shared with me the deeply personal nature of the story he was writing. A boy in a carnival, vulnerable and alone, finding beauty in silence and the absence of those around him. After a while, I stopped writing. Seeing Michael discuss the works, the way his writing was shaping them, the context, the background, the biography of his own lattice-work of references, was enamouring. Now the works are finished..the backgrounds are airbrushed in acrylic ink, soft and blurred like a mirage. Michael traces the airbrush back to those DK illustrations. Against them, short-haired hounds are painted in oil and acrylic, their edges cut clean with painter’s tape - the shift from haze to hard line reads almost like collage, at times. Michael calls the paintings a library of gestures, and I can’t think of a better description. - Join us from 5pm on Thursday, an hour before the opening, when Michael will read from his story, followed by a Q&A with me. We’ll also be launching the publication that accompanies the show, with the story in full and my essay. More info to come💛 📸 @mandyzhangart “Salt Land”, @michael_cy_gao Curated by Joséphine May Bailey @mandyzhangart Thursday 8 Oct Q&A and reading, 5pm Opening PV, 6pm by @procrastinarting_

I recently had the pleasure to interview Korean ceramicist Lee Kang-hyo for @ceramicreview, which has just been published online and in print for the September / October 2026 edition. Lee speaks only Korean, so we spoke through his daughter, an artist herself. The conversation moved slowly, but in great detail. It was a fascinating insight into a really unique and beautiful practice, and a joy to use as a base to write this article. Lee creates incredible ceramic sculptures inspired in part by traditional Korean practices. His largest onggi jars are built by hand, coiled over eight hours until, as he describes it, his body and mind become “like a vacuum”. Only then does the second stage begin- 6 minutes of ‘Samulnori’, Korea’s improvised percussion music, and white slip swept across the surface with bare hands. No brush. “My fingers, palms, and the backs of my hands are my brush.” I’ve included here a close up of one of the studio shots from the article - highlighting the incredible physicality and scale of these sculptures. Commissioned by @ceramicreview and one of the most rewarding things I have written this year. His exhibition opens at @goldmarkart, 17 September to 15 October.
