Designers often ask, “Does it look good?” A better question is, “Does it work?”

Typography isn’t just about choosing a font or arranging letters in an interesting way. It’s about communication. Every design decision should help people understand information faster and more accurately.

In this case, stacking the letters creates an unintended reading of the word and slows comprehension. That’s a problem when the entire purpose of the sign is to help people find assistance quickly.

This isn’t just a typography fail, it’s a communication fail. When people have to stop and decipher what a sign says, the design isn’t doing its job.

Good design isn’t when people notice the typography. It’s when they never have to think about it at all.
