It’s okay. I get it.

For some people, graduation feels exciting and full of possibility. For others, it can feel a little overwhelming. There’s this misconception that once you graduate, you’re supposed to have all the answers, know exactly what’s next, and have your entire career mapped out.

But that’s not the reality for everyone.

If you’re feeling unsure about what comes next, you’re not alone. Taking the time to reflect and ask yourself the right questions can help you better understand what genuinely excites you, what you’re passionate about, and where you want to go next.

This conversation was a reminder that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. Sometimes, asking yourself the right questions is the first step towards finding the right path. #graduation #justgraduated #whatsnext #bayesbusinessschool taken in Barbican Centre by @prof.costas

Congratulations to everyone graduating this year! 🎓

I find myself saying this every year, but it’s because I genuinely believe it.

If I could leave you with one piece of advice, it would be this: stay curious.

Be open to learning, ask questions, embrace new opportunities, and don’t be afraid to take a path you hadn’t planned. Curiosity has a way of opening doors you never expected.

I’ve often thought about this quote in the context of public speaking.

Over the years, I’ve spoken to audiences of different sizes, from lecture theatres and conference halls to boardrooms and classrooms. One thing I’ve learned is that the biggest obstacle to speaking isn’t usually a lack of expertise it’s the fear of being judged.

We worry about forgetting our words, saying the wrong thing, or not living up to the expectations we’ve set for ourselves. It’s easy to become so focused on how we’ll be perceived that we lose sight of why we’re speaking in the first place.

Marcus Aurelius’ words offer an interesting perspective. If so much of what we cling to our reputation, the need to appear flawless, or the approval of others—is temporary, why should it stop us from sharing an idea that could make someone think differently?

The speakers who have left the greatest impression on me haven’t necessarily been the most polished. They’ve been the ones who were genuinely curious, generous with their ideas, and willing to be themselves.

Whether you’re delivering a keynote, presenting your research, teaching a class or simply speaking up in a meeting, it’s worth asking yourself: what would you say if you weren’t so worried about being judged?
Often, the conversations that matter most begin when we’re prepared to speak before we feel completely ready.

The most valuable lessons in business rarely come from the moments when everything goes to plan.

They come from setbacks. From uncertainty. From the projects that don’t work the first time. From the moments when the easier option is to walk away.

Building something meaningful whether it’s a business, a career or an idea requires resilience more than certainty.

Too often, we see discomfort as a signal to stop. In reality, it’s often where the greatest growth happens.

Success isn’t about avoiding challenges. It’s about developing the mindset to keep moving forward despite them. Progress belongs to those who are willing to stay the course.

What challenge has taught you the most in your career?

This is not AI!

A few years ago, @brewdogofficial opened a hotel with an unusual feature: beer fridges inside the showers.

From a functional perspective, it makes very little sense. Most guests weren’t going to crack open a beer while shampooing their hair.

But functionality wasn’t the objective.

The shower beer fridge became a talking point. Guests photographed it, shared it across social media and told others about it. In doing so, BrewDog communicated far more about its brand than any advertising campaign could. It was bold, unconventional and unapologetically different.

There is an important lesson here for entrepreneurs.

We often assume that innovation is about making products or services more useful. Better features, lower costs and greater efficiency certainly matter. But usefulness alone rarely creates conversations.

Memorable businesses understand something different: people notice what violates expectations. When something is surprising, distinctive or slightly absurd, it interrupts the patterns we have come to expect. That moment of surprise makes it far more likely to be remembered and talked about.

Of course, there is a fine line between being distinctive and being gimmicky. Novelty without purpose quickly fades. Sometimes the ideas that create the greatest impact are not the most practical. They are the ones people cannot stop talking about. taken in London, United Kingdom by @prof.costas

When Estée Lauder founded her company in 1946, she had four skincare products, around $50,000 in capital, and a conviction that quality and relationships would matter more than scale. Decades later, the business she built would be worth well over $100 billion and become one of the most recognisable names in the beauty industry.

Stories like this are often told as examples of entrepreneurial success. We celebrate the growth, the innovation, and the extraordinary value created. Yet, in doing so, we sometimes overlook the more enduring lesson.
Building a successful business is one achievement. Building an organisation that can continue to prosper without its founder is another entirely.

Many companies are shaped by the energy, vision, and determination of the individual who created them. The real test, however, is whether those qualities become embedded within the organisation itself. That requires more than commercial success. It requires investing in people, creating robust governance, developing future leaders, and fostering a culture that guides decision-making long after the founder has stepped away.

This is where leadership and legacy intersect.
A business becomes truly enduring when it no longer depends on one person to sustain its purpose or performance. It becomes an institution rather than simply the reflection of its founder.

Perhaps that is Estée Lauder’s greatest achievement. She did not simply build a remarkable company; she built one that was designed to outlast her.

For every founder and leader, that may be the most important question to consider: are you building a successful business, or are you building something that will endure?

One of the hidden risks of senior leadership is the pressure to appear knowledgeable.Early in our careers, asking questions signals engagement and a willingness to learn. As responsibilities increase, many leaders begin to feel that they are expected to provide answers rather than seek them.

The challenge is not that senior leaders become less capable of learning. Rather, success can reinforce existing expertise and create subtle pressure to demonstrate certainty.

Yet some of the most effective leaders remain deeply curious. They continue to ask:

“What are we overlooking?”
“What assumptions are we making?”
“What can we learn from a different perspective?”

Perhaps the real challenge of leadership is not accumulating knowledge, but retaining the curiosity that made learning possible in the first place.

That idea sits at the heart of Purposeful Curiosity: curiosity is not simply a trait. It is a practice that becomes more valuable not less as we gain experience taken in London, United Kingdom by @prof.costas

A striking finding from @pwc_uk latest Global AI Jobs Barometer is that jobs requiring human capabilities such as judgment, creativity and leadership are growing faster and attracting stronger wage growth than those that rely primarily on routine expertise.

Drawing on more than a billion job advertisements across six continents, the report suggests that as AI transforms work, the skills becoming most valuable are often the ones that are hardest to automate.

This challenges one of the most common assumptions about AI.
The real value of AI may not be that it replaces human capability, but that it increases the importance of uniquely human capability.

As knowledge becomes more accessible and routine tasks become more automated, competitive advantage shifts towards creativity, curiosity, judgment and the ability to connect ideas in novel ways.

The future of work may depend less on what we know and more on how we think.

People often think innovation is about bigger budgets, more technology, or creating something entirely new.

Recently, Arsenal included an NFC card with purchases of their new home shirt. Fans can tap on their phone to hear voice messages from players and even leave messages of their own.

What struck me wasn’t the technology itself. NFC cards aren’t new. Voice messages aren’t new. The innovation was in how these simple elements were combined to create a stronger connection between the club and its supporters.

As products become increasingly similar and convenience becomes an expectation rather than a differentiator, people are searching for something more than a transaction. They want experiences. They want to feel understood. They want a sense of belonging to something bigger than the product they’re buying.

This is why small touches matter.

The brands that stand out aren’t always the ones with the biggest marketing budgets or the most advanced technology. They’re often the ones that think more deeply about the customer experience and find ways to create moments that feel personal, memorable, and authentic.

In a world where products can be replicated and features quickly copied, emotional connection becomes one of the most valuable assets a business can build.
