Starting something new doesn’t have to look perfect.

Aaron stepped onto the mats at 42 — and 3 months in, he’s already seeing how much it’s changed him. Not just physically, but mentally too.

In this interview, he shares what it’s been like learning jiu jitsu from day one… the small wins, the progress, and why showing up has been the best part.

If you’ve been thinking about trying it, this is your reminder that it’s never too late to start something for yourself.

You don’t need to have it all figured out — you just have to begin.

Last week was my final week as a coach at @profectus_columbia

This was the first gym I ever walked into, and signed up on the night of my first trial. I competed for the first time at three months of training, and lost 12-0. I became a kids coach as a 6 month white belt because I wanted to be there as much as I could. My entire jiujitsu career up until now has been structured around being a coach AND an athlete. I recently decided to try and just be an athlete so I can focus 100% of my training attention on my own performance. My coaching days aren’t over- but just on pause for now:)

Profectus Columbia brought me some of the most profound relationships in my life. I met my husband through my time there, one of my flower girls at my wedding, one of my bridesmaids, our wedding officiant, and some other friends that I will hold onto for my whole lifetime. From helping me break into my car when I’m locked out, dog sitting for me, getting me to/from tournaments, and so many other memories- these people became my family. I watched some kids join our program at three years old, and some kids join at 13. They all come in with the same level of curiosity for the sport and trust in their coaches to teach them well. Being a kids coach is the best job I’ve ever had. It has brought deep meaning and purpose to my life.

I will hold these years of my life with so much reverence. They shaped me into who I am today- and this place kept me going in times that otherwise would have pulled me under. Thank you to every single person in my Profectus Columbia family. I will visit often.

With so much love,
Coach Olivia💕 taken in profectuscolumbia by @profectusbjj

🥋 NEO Combat Lab is officially LIVE at our gym!

Ever finish a roll and think, “Wait… what actually happened there?” 😂

Now you can go back and watch it.

NEO Combat Lab automatically captures your training and gives you access to footage of your rounds right from the app. You can:

🎥 Watch your rolls from multiple camera angles
🔎 Find specific rounds by day and time
⏪ Review moments you want to study
📌 Save important moments and clips
📲 Download and share footage when available
🥋 Study your training and see what you can improve

The goal is simple: train → review → learn → improve.

Your training doesn't have to end when you step off the mat. Use NEO to look back at your rounds, identify what worked, see where you got stuck, and learn from the moments you might have missed in real time.

Download the NEO Combat Lab app NOW and get connected to our gym! 📲

Then get on the mats and start creating some footage. 🔥 taken in Profectus Jiu-Jitsu Nashville by @profectusbjj

WORLD MASTER 2026 🥋@ibjjf

Another Master World Championship. Another chapter in a journey driven by hard work, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of the podium and the long-awaited gold medal.

It was a period of intense challenges, profound lessons, and moments that will remain in my memory forever. 3 victories

TOP 10 IN THE WORLD 🌎🥋
IBJJF World Master 2026
Black Belt | Master 3 | Medium Heavy

And a narrow defeat in the round of 16: 2 advantages to 1.

It hurts. It hurts because every training session, every sacrifice, and every drop of sweat carried the same dream. But it is also through these defeats, no matter how small the margins, that strength reveals itself.

I stepped into every match ready to leave everything on the mat. I did not get the result I wanted, but I leave stronger, more aware, and even more determined. Every battle confirmed how much I love this sport and reinforced that I am on the right path.

The hunger remains. The desire has only grown stronger. The work does not stop.

The goal remains the same: to reach the podium, win the gold, and turn every setback into fuel for the next victory.

Thank you to everyone who cheered for me, supported me, and was part of this journey. You are in this fight with me too. 🙏

The journey continues. The next World Championship has already begun in my mind. And I will come back even stronger. 🥋

2026 World Master. 🥋

3 fights, 3 wins, and I was stopped in the Round of 16 by just 2 advantages to 1. I gave everything I had, and above all, I thank God for allowing me to be here and compete at the highest level. 🙏🏽

The journey continues. The work continues. And I’ll always be here—fighting, believing, improving, and coming back stronger until I finally achieve the GOLD. 🥇

Thank You, God, for another day of battle.
It’s not over. I’ll be back. The gold is still the goal. OSS! 🥋🔥 taken in Las Vegas Convention Center-West by @profectusbjj

4-1 at @kratospromotions! All wins by submission and lost in points. This was a great tournament with how it was ran to how well they took care of there athletes. No one was left empty handed and they really cared for all the athletes there. Won my weight bracket and lost in the finals of the absolute. Real happy with my performance and definitely feeling it today lol. So many tough matches
