El Festival de la Calle Ocho began in 1978 as an “open house” for Miami residents to get to know Cuban customs. Intended as a simple block party with expectations of only several thousand attendees, over 100,000 people showed up that first year.

By 1988, the festival had reached over 1.5 million attendees and was celebrating all Latin cultures. By the early 2000s, there were 40 stages spanning 23 blocks of Calle Ocho and it had transformed into a music festival, becoming a launching pad for major Latin artists.

At its very core, Calle Ocho is a full fledged celebration of Latin pride elevating our traditions, sounds, and spirits. Our love for this festival runs bone deep.

More archival footage and history to come…Drop your favorite Calle Ocho memory and come thru next Sunday, 3.15 to REP your flag, your people, your pride.

With a month to digest, reflect, internalize, I want to share some of the moments that made this so special. The goal of Purely is to take risks in intimacy, vulnerability and to re-engage the audience as responsible actors in the success of a night. I have immense gratitude to say that’s what this night felt like and the collective excitement and respect carried throughout. We all took risks to see this through. @mutantpete trusted us to showcase his new sound system for the first time. @cuckooclockmiami gave us all the trust for our first party and their first ticketed night. My friends @2lanes.zoomzoom & @nicknoexit had faith from the jump and delivered exactly what Purely was going for.
An instagram caption won’t cut it but there is more to come. 🫶🤘 To my professional audience members, I’ll see you soon ;). by @professionalaudiencemember

Nick León came back to Miami with all the wisdom from his travels and the heart to share that knowledge. 🌟💫✨🌟💫✨🌟💫 Our neighborly star is joining us this Saturday to spread the love and renewed inspiration from his latest trip to Brazil and reintegration into the current Miami music scene.
“All the music that I heard and the friends I was with really got the juices flowing and made me think of the connections between Miami Bass and some kinds of Baile Funk.” 🥁
In short, expect hot rhythm. by @professionalaudiencemember

Flying in from Detroit, 2lanes comes to offer us an inspiring reminder of the freedom in music and the power of friendship. It wouldn’t be fair to box him into a single genre. “Wild free music” is what he’s going for.
“I make music for DJing and always want my live set to feel like a DJ set that keeps the energy going and people dancing. To do this with 100% original music is the challenge.” by @professionalaudiencemember

My friends n peers please be introduced to PURELY.

An artist-centered night inviting you to intimately invest in the dialogue between art and audience. Removed from expectation, the night’s acts are free to offer their works in progress, what’s keeping them fresh, or the forgotten and revived. We ask you think about the role of the audience, the importance of conscious consumption and the beauty in forming opinions and creating dialogue. This is a night for sharing information, inspiration, and intimacy with fellow music lovers.

No bounds just love <3

Huge shoutout my co-conspirators and my friends on the bill.
