This is exactly how it skied this past weekend in the Santa Fe Mountains. The snow, the giggles, all of it. Even if this clip is from 2024 on the N-face of V6 near Ophir Pass, CO, it's the best substitute for video I didn't take over the weekend.

This past storm cycle opened up the NM backcountry 🌶️❄️

The @avyschool has Rec 1 and Rec 2 courses in Taos coming up at the end of January and February. While we're waiting on more snow, come learn some essential skills you'll carry into the rest of your season! by @professionalgaper

Plan for the best of it, work through the worst of it, seek out every opportunity to learn more @avyschool

Despite the challenging conditions in NM (read: lack of snow), this weekend's REC 1 course was engaging, fulfilling, and entirely inspiring!

Excitement. Frustration. Elation. Surprise. Relief. Gratitude.

That was the series of emotions lined out during the @amga1979 ski guide course at the end of March in the San Juans.

From terrain analysis in the field to high-level instruction in the classroom, from real-world rescue practice to understanding the story of the snowpack, through to capturing and communicating all of those details within a team so that we can navigate the avalanche hazard all with a smile on our faces. That's what it's all about.

Three weekends. The entire Recreational progression:
Rec 1 ➡️ Avalanche Rescue ➡️Rec 2

I'm so proud of the development of curriculum, culture, and companionship that makes the @avyschool so special.

Thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the latest @backcountrymag to highlight the good work of the @responderalliance 🙌

The newest models were introduced at @issw2023bend and highlighted by the @american_avalanche_association in TAR 42.1 to kick off this season.

But these tools are just as useful for everyone in their day to day, and not just while backcountry skiing.

Stress is a crazy thing. But humans are resilient. And we're even more so as a community. I'm so grateful for the community I'm surrounded by and their effort that helped get this one to press

It's been a busy, productive, and entirely fulfilling past few weeks pushing forward avalanche education in New Mexico ❄️🌶️

From sold-out REC and Rescue courses with @avyschool to our first ever Southwest @beaconbash, it takes collaboration to build a community, and I'm very thankful for the folks who rally together to make it all happen.
