📱 Reasons my apps got rejected when trying to publish them in the App Store (and how I solved these situations):

I want to give you a “heads up” in case you’re going to publish an app soon, Apple’s review team are quite picky 😅 and the Guidelines need to be respected.

What I’ve been rejected for:

1️⃣ Having a Login screen without the ability to Sign Up - in an app for couriers, which needed to authenticate them, without allowing them to create new accounts. Apple claimed the app is not for everyone, since its access is limited by needing an account.

Solution: publish the app as Unlisted, so it’s discoverable only via a direct link (but it’s still on the app store). Alternative: Publish it with Apple Business Manager.

2️⃣ App duplication - some partners wanted a slightly different version of their app to be published as a separate app for a different audience. Apple claimed that it’s “Spam” 🙃 because the apps were too similar.

Solution: publish them in different countries, so there’s no overlap. Alternative: publish one as a private app. Alternative 2: Update the initial app to have a “role selection” screen, which then takes the user to the proper part of the app.

3️⃣ Wrapper app for a website / web app. Some clients have a web app and they want a native app that just wraps it in web views, for more visibility on mobile. Apple complains about not having native functionality.

Solution: use at least 1-2 native features, like: notifications, biometric authentication, or at least create 5-7 screens as native screens, with the classic iOS navigation between them.

⛔️ Other rejections reasons might be:
- Using card payments for digital products instead of in-app purchases
- Apps that need an IOT device to work, and you don’t provide a demo video
- Incomplete / beta app, if it still has placeholders or empty screens.

💬 Do you want to publish an app one day? Or have you published some already? Comment below and let me know if you have any questions 👇

This week is crazy busy.
wwdc sessions on every lunch break
Betas working surprisingly stable on iPad and mac, didn’t risk to update iPhone yet.
You can still run Xcode 16 and ship updates from macOS 26 and upload TestFlight releases from Xcode 26

Also, check out Luka’s new haircut. Getting ready for summer .. in Thailand. Still cold and rainy here in Riga

Happy Monday everyone! ☀️
New week, fresh start, let’s make it a productive one 💪

How was your weekend?
I went out for a drink with a friend, and for the rest, nothing major. Just took it easy, which honestly felt great. Sometimes that’s exactly what we need, right?

This week I’m working on a small project and doing some optimizations
Keeping it focused, setting small goals, and taking it one step at a time
You got this, and so do I 😄

Have a wonderful week 💕

Been slowly transitioning to the new M4 Max Macbook Pro, and man this thing flies 🚀⚡️

I’ve been hesitant on an upgrade for so long, since the M1 Max has been doing really well. But after a few days of working on this new setup, I can already feel the difference. Definitely a solid move for the workflow 🫡🔥

This might be just me, but I’m also taking my time and installing everything clean on this machine. I just always had issues with Migration assistants in the past 😒😅 by @programunity

back into review the app goes 🚀
-
Back to waiting for review on the new app. I spun up a quick addition for allowing account deletion within the app and it wasn’t too bad. Feeling pretty good about it otherwise tho and hopefully can get it reviewed and approved today/tmrw 🤞🏼 I really want to get started on the next version which includes some nice features 💪🏼

Have a great start to the week!

Big news!! From now on, I’ll have more free time to dive into my side projects 🎉 It's finally the time to give my side projects the love and focus they truly deserve 💻

Next week, I’m heading abroad for a conference 🌍✈️ While I’m there, I’ll do my best to share some fun, techy, and academic vlogs 🤓📹

Stay tuned! Exciting things ahead! 🔥

Coding and desk setup vibes 👨🏻‍💻

Been super busy with work these days so here are some quick snaps of the home office. On the whole coding side I’ve been experimenting with a little side project using Supabase for the BE. I am super impressed by how easy it is to use.

For the Frontend I use Nuxt JS which is based on Vue JS. Honestly, if you are not using Javascript frameworks like React or Vue then you are missing out! I remember a few years back being scared of them because it was basically all JS and I wasn’t very confident with it. Now I wish I learnt it sooner.

Being able to create your own Dashboards and connect to API’s allows you to pretty much build anything you want and with so much ease.

The side project I’m working on is a little personal project where I’m creating an RSVP app that my guests can go onto and basically RSVP to events. Also letting them upload images they take at the event so we have a library of images from everyone. It’s at the beginning stages but going really well! 🤓

Anyway back to work 🤐

If you are a coder, let me know what languages you work with or are learning 👇🏻
Would love to hear more about what you do ✌🏻

Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is rest and let your mind reset. 😌

Slowly getting back to making content again. 🙌
As I posted around two weeks ago, I've been taking a step back due to some unexpected circumstances that drained quite some energy and forced me to switch priorities. As this is finally getting settled, I am aiming to start posting content again. 💪

I have quite some interesting series in mind. Here a sneak peak:
💎 Thrifted Thursdays. Sharing some cool and interesting items I thrifted that shape or enhance my setup to hopefully inspire you to make your setup unique to you too.
🕹 Reviewing old game source codes like Half life 2, Quake, OpenTTD and more. Trying to find interesting code and common flaws showing that even today we make similar mistakes.
⭐️ Potentially another series around math. 😉

So, I hope you all will enjoy the content that's coming soon! 🙏

Besides this all I am very happy I took a step back. The past few weeks were challenging but I managed to push through. But don't be concerned, I'm doing well. Just had to switch priorities. 🫶

Hope everyone is doing good, and as always! 👇

Happy coding everyone! 👨‍💻

🧑‍💻 What are the most 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 to 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 in a 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽?

Some people consider the mobile side as being simple 😒 alright, it’s not rocket science and we’re not 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗼𝗻 with our apps (maybe with Crypto apps? 🚀), but that doesn’t make things so easy.

📲 Of course, some functionalities aren’t difficult to implement: communicating with an API, creating lists, scrollable sections, handling user actions.

On the other hand, here are a few things that can give you some headaches:

1️⃣ 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 - saving data on the phone, in a Database, and making the app work without internet connectivity. Then, sync everything when you’re back online, communicating with the server.

2️⃣ 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗢𝗧 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 - connecting via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to some devices, communicating with them, sending/receiving commands, and handling all the edge cases.

3️⃣ 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲’𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀 - GPS, Camera, Accelerometer, etc. Using them for basic functionalities is not that hard, but often times an app needs to tap into the deep capabilities of these sensors. Examples: RAW image processing, background location tracking.

💬 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗱𝗱 to this list of difficult things to implement in a mobile app?

Programming Solution Stories (Part.4)

Smart Logging & Automation 🤖

Imagine running an RPA (🤖) process that,
> reads data from an API,
> logs multiple times into a website,
> navigates across pages,
> has a lot of checks to be blocked,
> pushes data into the system,
> runs every hour,
... non-stop.
*(RPA = Robotic Process Automations)

With that kind of frequency you need to have in mind that,
> the site might be down,
> a page might load too slowly,
> my own server could lag,
> or any random error can appear,
... you get the idea.

So how I made it reliable?
I introduced structured try-catch blocks for every major step of this process.
Each step is marked in the logs like,
Step 1 : Read API data
Step 2 : Login to Website
...
Step 10 : Send End-of-Run Report
That way, when something breaks I know exactly which step failed.

For rare or unexpected errors?
I added another feature that emails me directly for an unexpected error.
So I get notified instantly and then I can go apply my patch without the need to check my log file.

What about End-of-Run reports?
That was essential as now at the end of each RPA cycle, a summary report is sent automatically to my email.
This showcase each RPAs run with all the steps they carried and the returned outcome.
With that I can have an overall view of how the system is behaving hour by hour, day by day.

The lesson here is ... 🙏
If you can’t see where it fails,
you can’t fix it fast.
And in automated systems, speed matters.

Btw, to setup a cronjob to run every hour you will need to set this command,
> 1 * * * *

Yours, KosDevLab
