Nolan Wells should still be here.

Nolan Wells was the victim of a racist murder, and we refuse to accept the official story.

Nolan was a graduate of Ocean Springs High School and a wide receiver at Southwest Mississippi Community College. He went to Horn Island with friends, and two days later, his body was pulled from the water.

They told us he drowned. But a private autopsy found no water in his lungs and documented bruising on the back of his head and torso. Even the state’s own autopsy couldn’t determine how he died. Deleted messages. Conflicting findings. A grand jury that saw nothing wrong.

We stand with Nolan’s family. We demand an independent investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. We will not let his name fade.

Say his name. Share his story. Keep asking questions. taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @progressgeorgia

Cobb County Schools, Georgia’s second-largest district, is removing Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye” from library shelves, reigniting a fight over what belongs on school bookshelves.

Superintendent Chris Ragsdale read an explicit passage aloud at Thursday’s board meeting, arguing parents shouldn’t be blindsided by the book’s content. But library advocates say the district skipped the review process state law lays out, one that’s supposed to start with a parent complaint, not a decision from the top.

Retired librarian Nan Brown says the novel doesn’t meet the legal standard for obscenity and that the scene in question depicts rape as violence, not anything gratuitous. She’s also raising a bigger question: if policy gets bypassed once, what’s next?

This isn’t the first time Cobb has clashed over school materials, and it mirrors a similar 2022 fight in Forsyth County that ended with the book being reinstated after a federal review.

Earlier this week on the 50% Project we explored the child food insecurity crisis here in our own backyard. In Georgia the numbers are pretty grim, but when it comes to Hancock County, Georgia the numbers are down right atrocious.

Feeding America estimates that at least 46.9% of children in Hancock County are suffering from child food insecurity. The most important thing to stress is that this is not a personal or individual failure, but a systemic and policy based issue.

There are many contributing factors to child food insecurity such as income, transportation, and school meal gaps in the Summer. With each of these being measurable they are also solvable. We have the power to change these conditions.

Make sure you follow @ PGA_MGA for ways to uplift the 50% project and how to help solve this crisis.

Welcome back... to week 3 of the 50% project. This 10 week campaign was designed and created to uplift and amplify the child food insecurity crisis in Hancock County, Georgia.

Today we highlight some of the structural and policy based decisions that lead to an issue this big. There is also a misconception that food insecurity means food doesn't exist. The truth is it's being kept away by bureaucrats that will never experience the struggle.

We must also recognize that this isn't just about food - it's about income, transportation, relying on school meals, and having to be at the mercy of your government.

So, follow along here @ PGA_MGA to find out more about how you can help solve this crisis.

There is a long laundry list of things that black folks are known for, including creating every modern genre of music, being the backbone of civil rights movements, and taking over like it's the 99/2000.

But there is one thing we know Black folks don't be doing: they do not hang themselves from trees.

Over the past year, at least 10 Black people have been found hung from trees in America mainly in the South.

It's incumbent upon us as a nation to rise up and fight back against these heinous incidents.

These 10 individuals -

Tasia Fortune and Demartravion "Trey" Reed of Mississippi,
Demetrius Flemming and Juliana Nzita of North Carolina
Justice Kai James and Kyle Bassinga of Georgia
To'nea Nicole Miller of Florida
Jerard "Jay" Jackson of Michigan
Torrence "Tory" Medley of Wisconsin
and more recently a black man in Maryland who's name has not been revealed to the public -

all deserved better than what they were given and how this situation has been handled. We need to call upon our representatives to push law enforcement agencies to investigate these tragedies.

Because we all know there's a lot of things Black folks probably goin' always do - but we know one thing that they ain't about to ever do, and that's hang themselves from trees.

This week, a 16-year-old stood up at the Hall County Board of Commissioners meeting to speak out against a proposed cell tower planned for her neighborhood — one that would've routed construction trucks and heavy equipment straight through her family's driveway.

She wasn't alone. A group of kids from her neighborhood stood behind her, showing up together for their community.

The commissioners took notice and even commented on how many young people showed up in support.

The commission voted against the proposal.

Huge congratulations to this incredible advocate and every kid who stood beside her. You showed up, spoke up, and made a real difference for your neighborhood. 👏

Want to help us celebrate more people who speak up and engage with local government?

Georgia’s power plants could emit more greenhouse gases under changes to federal climate rules.

The Trump administration’s EPA finalized a repeal of most of the Biden-era greenhouse-gas standards for fossil-fuel power plants on Sept. 14, while proposing to eliminate the remaining federal GHG standards for the power sector.

In Georgia, the stakes are significant. Georgia Power continues to operate coal plants, while rising electricity demand from data centers is driving new natural-gas generation.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Georgia’s power sector emitted about 42.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2024.

Clean-energy advocates say rolling back the standards could allow fossil-fuel plants to run more often and increase emissions. The EPA, meanwhile, says the changes will reduce compliance costs and support reliable, affordable energy.

The policy is still being challenged and the EPA is taking public comment on its proposal to repeal the remaining standards.

Today we stood with community members, immigrant justice organizations and Samson’s loved ones to send a clear message: Bring Samson Birhane home!

Samson came to the United States as a refugee from Eritrea at age 13 and has lived in Atlanta for more than 16 years. In June, he was deported to Equatorial Guinea, a country he had never visited. He was held in a hotel used as a detention center until he was recently transferred to a jail. Amnesty International reports that officers beat Samson during the transfer and has raised concerns about his safety and detention conditions.

Thanks to @advancing_justice_atl for putting this together. by @progressgeorgia
