Happy belated birthday to meeeeeee!!!!
My birthday was Monday.

Another trip around the sun and your favorite crazy Auntie has decided to share some new principles written in, “The Book of Jenna”.

1. If you don’t like your story, rewrite that shit.
2. Whatever path you choose, walk that Bitch
3. Whatever you heard about me, believe all that shit.
4. Dance in the rain and enjoy every minute of it.

Every single thing you do every single day is a CHOICE.

“Chapter 23: The Midwife’s Bag: A Tool of Rebellion.”

That word—rebellion—matters.

Because when you understand what was deliberately taken from African-descended people, our survival starts to look very different.

We were enslaved.
We were denied formal education.
Teaching us to read was illegal.
Our bodies were legally treated as property.
Our labor was exploited.
Our inventions and intellectual contributions could be denied, appropriated, or credited to someone else.

And still…

WE LEARNED.

Knowledge did not disappear because a classroom was closed to us.

It traveled through mothers and daughters.
Through midwives.
Through healers.
Through elders.
Through observation, experience, memory and community.

The midwife carried more than a bag.

She carried knowledge.
Knowledge about pregnancy.
Knowledge about childbirth.
Knowledge about herbs and remedies.
Knowledge about women’s bodies.
Knowledge that could mean the difference between life and death.

And then they phrased it as “devil’s work”, made it taboo so that we would be afraid of ourselves.

And this is what fascinates me most:

Rebellion was not born from having nothing. It was born from having something they could not successfully take away.

Intelligence.
Ingenuity.
Common sense.
Creativity.
Spiritual strength.
An extraordinary ability to observe, adapt, remember—and teach the next generation.

But property does not create culture, medicine, technology, strategy, art, resistance and new knowledge. People do.

So when I look at this page, I don’t just see a chapter about a midwife’s bag.

I see evidence of a people who turned survival into an intellectual tradition.

Our perseverance was not accidental.
Our resistance was not irrational.
Our rebellion was not born from emptiness.

It was born from abundance.

And when a people possess that much knowledge, talent, creativity and common sense while being systematically denied the institutions that were supposed to develop those things—

you don’t get an inferior people.

You get an unbroken people.
