A gallery of modern art in The Hague with a strong focus on photography. Founded in 2008 by Coen van den Oever.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
From 14 - 18 October, photographer Femke Reijerman will have new works on show as part of the @de_galerie_den_haag stand at Art The Hague.

The still life photography of Femke Reijerman does not depict reality as such, it rather portrays a “reality” as experienced and constructed by her. By piecing together various elements, or in turn casting them aside, Femke is able to create a new, often abstract realism full of colour and tactility. These images are painstakingly created by hand and without the use of digital technology. An image for Femke comes together much like a sculpture does: she is constantly chiselling away at various bits and pieces, continuously constructing and composing, forming that final, ultimate vision.

Be sure to visit Art The Hague at the Fokker Terminal in The Hague, from 14 - 18 October.

Currently on show at Project 2.0 / Gallery, step into our autumn group exhibition featuring the work of Sebastiaan Knot, Christian August, and Maurice van Venrooij. Experience Knot’s perception-bending photo work, August’s fantastical and radiant painted landscapes, and van Venrooij’s tactile and colourful minimalist paintings.

Sebastiaan Knot (b. 1970, Groningen, Netherlands) transforms the elemental forces of light and color into vivid abstractions that hover between image and object. Based in Rotterdam, he begins with the simplest of materials, arranging and illuminating them with precisely tuned colored light. From these quiet experiments emerge works that expand beyond photography into sculptural reliefs and immersive spatial encounters.

Christian August (b. 1977 in Halle / Saale, Germany and based in Berlin) works at the threshold between worlds. His paintings locate themselves in ecosystems that exist nowhere precisely, and August navigates this path within an abstract expressionist approach. His landscapes are imbued with memory and imagination, exuding an inviting and dreamy charm that is both recognisable and alien.

Maurice van Venrooij doesn’t paint, he constructs paintings. Starting from an apparently simple design that emerges from his background as an architect, he builds up the paint, layer by layer. Central to each work is the construction of a spatial order, formed through a repetitive, human action.
That human execution is not an imperfect addition, but a necessary condition to counterbalance the doctrine of an overly rigid system. His work constitutes an ongoing spatial investigation into the tension between order and imperfection.

Visit the gallery to view available works by these amazing artists.

Also from Project 2.0 / Gallery, new works by Marjolein van Haasteren will form part of De Galerie Den Haag’s stand at Art The Hague, hosted at the Fokker Terminal in the Hague from 14 - 18 October.

Clear lines and contours loom up from a turbulent background. Whoever sees the work of Marjolein van Haasteren steps into another world. A fairy-tale world, so unique and capricious that the laws of everyday life do not seem to apply.

Her surreal works are preceded by a period of research. Plant and leaf forms are carefully studied, and find a way onto the canvas. In her paintings organic order, movement and proliferation, displacement and tranquility are shown. Poignant lyrical works, where lush growth and harmonious stillness go hand in hand.

Be sure to catch new works by Marjolein van Haasteren at Art The Hague, from 14 to 18 October in the Fokker Terminal in The Hague.

Meet the Wonderlings! This week at Art The Hague, discover the brand new series of small works by artist Laurien Renckens.

Wonderlings emerge from something that already has a life of its own. Old, used boxes and discarded materials are repurposed by Renckens and transformed into meaningful works of art. What was once waste becomes something that evokes meaning and wonder anew.

Furthering the concept behind the previous series, Telesma and ‘Birds of Paradise’, Wonderlings is about ‘being different’ and daring to be bold. That is why Renckens illuminates the artworks with paint on the back, creating a soft ray of light on the wall. When you live true to yourself, that is when you shine, even if it means being different from the norm.

Meet and adopt some of Laurien Renckens’ Wonderlings at Art The Hague, as part of De Galerie Den Haag’s small works wall, hosted at the Fokker Terminal in The Hague from 14 - 18 October. taken in Fokker Terminal by @project2.0gallery

We are extending the Sweet Summer Weeks group exhibition by one week; if you have not yet had the chance to see the work of Marjolein van Haasteren, Casper Faassen and Sanne Terweij, the exhibition will now run until Sunday 13 September.

The three artists have distinct expressive voices; Marjolein van Haasteren draws you into her fairytale scenes of swirling plantlife and deep waters, Casper Faassen stuns with his singular painterly approach to photography, and Sanne Terweij explores the timeless beauty of oxidation with her copper-based hangable object pieces. Together these works fuse their disparate elements into a warm and inviting harmony.

Be sure to catch these three talents on display together at Project 2.0 / Gallery!

Currently on show as part of our Sweet Summer Weeks is the singular work of Casper Faassen, whose painterly approach to photography brings both beauty and decay to the fore.

Casper Faassen (1975) grew up in Leiden where, inspired by the 17th century masters from the same city such as Rembrandt and Van Goyen, he developed his love for drawing and painting.

Using traditional painterly subjects, Faassen’s attention shifts to photography, through which he explores the concepts of void, influenced by Japanese philosophy and art. He approaches his photography as paintings through various transparent layers. This creates a distance between subject and viewer and the interplay between what is seen and unseen. A final layer of craquelé refers back to painting and provides a contrast between beauty and apparent decay, but is mainly used by Faassen as a reference to time. Painters and photographers freeze a moment for eternity, and he emphasises this by adding this final signature layer.

A selection of works by Casper Faassen can currently be seen in the gallery, alongside work of Sanne Terweij and Marjolein van Haasteren, until Sunday 6 September.

Currently on show as part of the second phase of our Sweet Summer Weeks is the work of Marjolein van Haasteren, through which she invites you into an underwater world inspired by flora and fairytale alike.

Van Haasteren paints her landscapes with swirling brushstrokes and a muted use of color. The large ink lines she once had to set up during her calligraphy class at art school eventually got under her skin. The method of line drawing - by turning your brush the line becomes thinner or thicker - is a technique she still uses today. Handcut templates are applied over the line structure. Those bold painted visual elements can be seen as the artificiality that organic forms can have, or as the way we edit our natural environment. Nature as a mirror that amazes and captivates.

The works of Marjolein van Haasteren can be seen at Project 2.0 / Gallery until Sunday 6 September, alongside works of Casper Faassen and Sanne Terweij.

NEW ARTIST / We are excited to announce that Amsterdam-based artist Sanne Terweij is now represented by Project 2.0 / Gallery!

In her work, Sanne Terweij (Amsterdam, 1984) explores the timeless beauty of oxidisation, presenting artworks that fuse classical and contemporary elements, as well as embracing colour and craftsmanship by using tried-and-true materials in a refreshingly new way.

Through her mesmerising colourful wall objects Terweij presents a unique form of design, alchemically transforming metals into timeless art pieces that harmoniously blend geometric shapes with the organic movement of oxides.
In her studio, she experiments with various chemical processes and artistic interventions, breathing life into metals like copper and brass while exploring the oxidative properties of her materials.

Oxidation is an unpredictable process and only partially controllable. Navigating these paths leads her on a constant quest for balance; a journey of finding acceptance in what is, and changing what she deems necessary.
This creative chemistry, unfolding on the hundreds of hand cut shapes that make up her works, ensure that no two works are ever the same.

A selection of new works by Sanne Terweij can currently be seen in the gallery as part of the second phase of our Sweet Summer Weeks group exhibitions, along with works by Marjolein van Haasteren and Casper Faassen.
