Day 11: The team spent today digging out and shifting soil behind the new extension to bring the ground level down two metres for our future patio.

Instead of uncovering ancient Roman ruins, we discovered the original housing developers simply buried a massive stash of their leftover bricks beneath the lawn. Another day, another unexpected garden surprise cleared! by @projectelms

Day 10: The lads have been busy cutting back the retained garden a further two metres behind the old wall today to create a nice, flat patio area just outside the extension. Back breaking work, we are so grateful of the hours the team are putting in!

At the same time, they linked the new external airbricks directly to the house’s original vents.

Day 9 and we are officially out of the ground!

We were dreading rain, but the sun held out all day - fingers crossed this weather sticks around so we can keep up the momentum.

The lads put in a proper shift, fueled by tea and biscuits, laying trench blocks, building the red engineering bricks up to DPC, and fitting the rear air bricks.

So good to see it take shape! by @projectelms

Day 8: Not much progress today, the builder’s yard delivered materials for the first course of blocks to go down. We were hoping to see it take shape but we’ll be patient!

Tomorrow looks dry so keeping fingers crossed it stays that way!

In the meantime, we’ve started to empty the kitchen out, picking 2 coats each to last us through autumn, difficult decisions made 🫣 by @projectelms

Day 7: Hand-dug & rock solid

Incredible what the team managed to shift in just one week - all by hand, since tight access meant zero chance of getting a digger in.
Building Control signed off the trenches yesterday morning, concrete was poured by late afternoon, and 12 hours later… quality control (my son) stepped in to test the strength. Passed with flying colours! 👟

On to the next stage. by @projectelms

Day 6: The trench is ready!! We’re expecting building control people the come around tomorrow morning, and hopefully give the go ahead to stay pouring foundations!

The grab truck also came to take away all the much the builders have been digging out over the last few days, feels like progress!

We’ve also had our builder surprise us saying they need to come into the living room tomorrow! And kitchen is a couple of weeks! Eeekkk! Time to get the house emptied out! by @projectelms

Day 5: No builders today so we’re spending some time clearing out what we can of the rest of the ground floor, finalising our kitchen layout, looking at appliances and lighting!

Any advice welcome! 🙏 by @projectelms

Day 4: All the progress is still under the ground, aside from the ever increasing pile on rubble above the ground!
The guys have been amazing digging this all out by hand so they can work around any pipes.
We need a few more dry days like this 🙏 by @projectelms

Day 3: The guys have been digging footings and… the manhole we thought just serves us, looking like it might not serve just us 🙈

Let’s see what new adventures this brings 😭 by @projectelms

Day 2: Pure demolition mode. 🔨 Wall & steps down, concrete footing half smashed, and literal mountains of rubble cleared - all to make room for… even more digging.

Day 1 of the build and we’re already uncovering secrets… 👀
The demo crew arrived at 8:30 and tore through the old conservatory and retaining wall in no time so we can push the footprint back.

Plot twist? We found a hidden manhole under the floor. Fingers crossed it only serves our house so we can easily reroute it without a drama! by @projectelms
